Hi Ronnie, Bruce used acoustic on recordings far more than electric, but on stage it wasn't particularly practical - it would have meant either standing precisely in one place behind a mike (not good for any walks) or fitting a soundhole magnetic pickup, which when plugged into a typical guitar amp (say AC30 in this case) would then sound pretty much like an electric. They were really the only choices back then. There wasn't any undersaddle piezos and all the other great equipment available these days for amplifying acoustics. (And the matching guitars always looked great!). Bruce did occasionally appear on tv with an acoustic. Chas.

Thanks Chas & Lou for your input, my friend read an article this week in a guitar magazine interview with Bruce Welch that most early recordings of Shadows hits were with the Acoustic and as my Friend is a keewn Rhythm Guitarist and fan of Bruce he just felt it strange Acoustic used as most photos show him with electric guitar.
Thank You
Ronnie

Hi Ronnie, It is true up to a point. Bruce played electric on probably quite a few of the earlier tunes. To be told he only played acoustic is incorrect. Regards, Charlie

I am a little confused tonight as my friend read a magazine article about Bruce Welch guitars on earlier recordings / concerts that he only used Acoustic Guitars He did use acoustic guitars on many early recordings, starting with Apache which he recorded using Cliff's borrowed Gibson J200. But he also used electric guitars on some recordings. At this time he didn't use acoustic guitars on stage, as he is doing now for some tunes. Didier
