Hi all,
Hope you do not mind the query, I have been using a Vox VT15 for the last year & a half, I have been quite happy with it, I have just bought a G2 and now looking at a newer amp, I have around £150 to spend so the Reverb twin is out of my price bracket. I have been thinking of the Fender 65R, sounded good in the shop, but all do when you are in a shop!
Anybody here using a G2 on this sort of setup, what are you getting sound wise?
Strat std with Duncan Seymour pups.

Hi there. I have a Fender 25R which I bought recently whilst my Vox AC 30 was being repaired under warranty and I think it is great. In fact I use it most of the time even though I now have the Vox back. The clean sound is excellent and Charlie's echos sound really good through it. It appears that this whole series of amps are good. However I did have a Fender modeling amp (FM 212 DSP) which I had to send back as I thought the sound was very poor.
Regards,
Robert

Interesting, it is the clean version I am most interested in. Do you use any effects pedals with it? The 25R does not have an effects loop, that was main reason for me looking at the 65R

Hi DC, You are right the 25R does not have an effects loop. I use a Quad plus with Charlie's patches. Strat into Quad and output from Quad to amp. Sound is good ( to me anyway) no distortion with good clean echo sound. I also use a touch of reverb on the Fender amp. There is absolutely loads of reverb available if you want it; but as Charlie says if you use too much it effects the sound of the echo. Hope you get on OK, keep us posted. The best plan would be for you to try the amp in a shop if you can.
All the best, Robert

Thanks Robert, I have tried the amps in the shops, not with the G2 admittedly and really liked them, however I bit the bullet yesterday and ordered the Fender 65R; has already arrived at work about half an hour ago, it is sat under my desk right now, still boxed DC

Hi DC, I'd like to hear what you think after you've had the chance to play around with it. Martyn

Hi Martyn,
I won't be able to answer that for a while, it's gone back!
The reverb stopped working and the clean channel started to sound like somebody had opened a steam pipe. It sounded great for the first 20 mins! After that I cannot say. But give them their due they are changing it quickly at no cost (City Link just picked it up 10 mins ago). Fingers crossed it does not take long. Back to the Vox! On an side the Vox does NOT like the G2 at all, it gets some very metalically sounding reverb through it, sounds crikey awful to be honest.

Hi DC,sorry to hear you've had bad luck with your new purchase it's happened to me also but have a look at my thread in the technical room "4ohm to 8ohm" and there's a link to what I purchased recently and with which I'm surprisingly pleased. I also run a G2 through it though via the effects loop which I prefer as the pre-amp has a 12ax valve which the G2 could drive into distortion if output levels aren't monitored closely. Spring reverb ,again surprisingly warm not tinny or thwaky, a cd input which can be used as a separate input from another amp/pedal/mike ,and h-phones out.The distortion channel is for metal freaks only as the gain is very high and to even get a mild blues o/d the gain is barely on 2 and though the eq is 3 band the clean channel eq seems more powerful even if only 2 band. For G2 use the clean channel is to be used only. Best of luck GG

Thanks GG, I have heard the Fender 65R in the shop and when it did work I was very happy with it, I phoned them today and have been assured as they have no more in stock Fender are sending them 1 and they will send it straight out to me. Bought from Umbrella Music. Fingers crossed, I have had bits n pieces off them before and was very happy, so hope they do not let me down.

Well it's just arrived and it's still knackered, exactly the same issue. I wonder if they have even sent it off. I won't be buying anything thing else off Umbrellamusic, now struggling to get it returned & my money back.
