Hi Guys I switched on my computer and read all the latest news as usual and then went to page 14 on our sound threads to listen to a number called Saturday nite at the Duck Pond The number started then after about 20 seconds I had an aleart that McAfee had detected several Trojans which I then got McAfee to remove them. My last e-mail was three days ago from a well known music shop and as my computer is automatically scanned on start-up I can only assume that it came in on that particular number but I could be wrong, I wondered if any other members have had a similar experience David

Not presently, however I have heard of music files for viruses as they can call up codecs etc thus infecting your laptop/pc

Hi pacman. I had something similar when i went to 4shared to listen to a sound file. I got a message saying that my computer was infected. It started to scan my pc and I couldnt stop it . I had to go into C/L/T to stop it. When i scaned my pc with my own antivirus/spyware program it showed nothing. Regards Tony

Hi David I can personally guarantee that it wasn't the sound file that caused the problems, as that is one of my sound files. I have just re-downloaded the file & checked it against my original file & it is identical & has not been tampered with. I also scanned the file with the latest version of ESET Internet Security & the 4Shared file is clean. The file plays all the way through with no problem whatsoever. What may have happened is that sometimes on some web pages you get a banner ad that informs you that your PC is infected & you are asked to click the ad for a scan, the scan actually infects your system & then asks for payment to clean your system. You may have accidentally clicked on one of the banner ads at 4Shared? If you are still interested in listening to the file you will find an updated version here as I wasn't 100% happy with my first version charliehall.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=music&action=display&thread=2803Definitely Trojan free, I guarantee it It looks like you don't live too far from me, I live in East Cornwall

Hi DC, Tony, thanks for your replies Hi Joeboy or is it Robert, I did'nt mean to imply that it was your number was infected what I should have said have any other members had problems with other numbers in the past. I know I did'nt click on any banner. The people that make up these trojans, viruses etc. are finding new ways all the time to get inside your computer and infect it,anyway no harm done.I listened to your new version and thought you played it very well I played it back in the sixties and I remember I used to change my plectrum for a thin one for this number for the mandolin bit. I live 20 mins. South of Newquay.
Regards David. PS. Is the site running slow to-night or is it my imagination (could be one of those Trojans) ;D ;D

Hi david Glad you liked the sound file, it is a fun tune to play (Trojan free too !! ;D ) I didn't take offence on your Trojan post I was concerned that there may have been a problem with my file but there wasn't. I'm about 5 miles from the Tamar Bridge, so probably not far from you

if you start to get a download you dont want or think it is a virus the best simple quickest way to deal with it is unplug your computer or turn of the power it cant get through then. i know nothing about computers but think about it peter

Hi Robert, Just out of curiosity I googled the word Trojan to see exactly what a Trojan was.On wikipedia it said they can be installed on software downloads eg.file sharing sites,e-mail atachments the list goes on and by the looks of it they can do a lot of damage.I know I have an annoying pop up called Magcore every time I switch on my laptop but will go away when I click it off ,incidentally as I only listen to the sound files is that classed as a download? I've just had a brainwave if I spray my keyboard with flyspray and I can hear coughing I know I've got the little blighter ;D ;D ;D
Hi Peter, I had a similar thing happen when I first had my computer I tried to get rid of it myself but ended up having to take it to an expert to have it removed perhaps if I just unplugged it may have got rid of it
Kind regards to you both. David

Hi David
My understanding of a Trojan is malicious code hidden within legitimate files, all appears fine until you open the file releasing the malicious code. I believe the correct wording is 'Trojan Horse' as the behaviour is similar to the siege of Troy.
It is good practice to scan all downloaded files with your AV software before opening, but how many of us do that?
