Hi All, Struggled with this one. I've played parts of this one since my teens, but never been able to play it all the way through without messing it up somewhere. I decided recently, to once and for all, try and crack it at long last and finally put it to bed. A shame it's taken so long, as I do love playing it. This is my effort. www.4shared.com/audio/ZAYGSA8M/Man_Of_Mystery.htmlAll usual comments welcome - good, bad, other, etc. Kind regards Roger

Hi Roger, A good sound and well played. I would like to point out a few wrong notes though. The A note at 00:31 and 00:59 and 01:41 and 01:55 should be A# (or Bb). At 00:45 the chord B should change to Bm and similarly at 01:13 the 3rd of the B the chord should not be there, a 5th would be better as Hank played it, then it could imply the minor chord (without actually playing the minor note). Although your double stop at 00:46/00:47 is musically correct, I think Hank played it as an open treble E string and the 17th fret on the B string, making two E notes an octave apart, this gives the required effect with the tremolo arm as the two notes become deliberately out of tune with each other when the arm is pushed down. I would suggest as you are playing it very well that you play along with the original to see where yours is differing as I explained. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie,
Thanks for listening and for lots of good info. I will print out your posting and analyse my efforts to see the places where I am incorrect. I must say that I do not find this one easy to play, and only learned it by ear from memory of many years ago. Never mind, with a lot of effort on my part and I will hopefully get there.
Thanks again.
Kind regards Roger

Hi Roger,
That's a really good effort, with a good sound, I'm sure you'll soon have this one fully "cracked" if you take heed of Charlies notes. Thanks for sharing this one Roger.
Kind regards,
chris

Hi Chris,
Thanks for listening and kind comments. It's going to take a little effort to un-learn where my fingers think they ought to go. still I'll give it a go and maybe re-post the result.
Kind regards Roger

Hi Roger,
As Chris said, you are not far away at all. Some of the notes aren't quite correct. With Charlie's help, I think you will get it in the end. The tone and sound are close and the playing is very good. Thanks for sharing it Roger.
Cheers, Len

Hi Roger, You say this is my effort, I think more than that, this is a really good sound file and very good playing as well, if you pick up what Charlie suggests re the notes and whack 'em a tiny bit harder you've really nailed it. Tony

Hi Tony,
Thanks for your kind comments. I am now in the process of correcting it. It does require quite a degree of concentration, as I have it locked into my brain and fingers the way that I am used to playing it. I don't think I can hit the notes any harder without losing the control that the number requires, as I find it a bit tricky to play. Still, I will try my best and we'll see what happens.
Kind regards Roger

Hi Chris and Charlie,
Thank you both very much for listening and for your kind comments. I am so relieved. Although hard to believe, I have put so much work into this number as I do not find it an easy one to play. I do enjoy playing it though.....strange eh! Perhaps I can put this one to bed for a bit now and have a go at another one....'Cosy' maybe....hmmm.
Kind regards Roger

Hi Roger, I know Cosy quite well so I will notice any irregularities! Seriously, it is deceptively difficult to play and make it sound right. But it will be interesting to hear it if you have a go. Regards, Charlie

Hi Roger, I heard your second version. You seem to have corrected all of the problem notes that were pointed out earlier by Charlie. It sounds good. Your efforts have been rewarded. I now look forward to sitting under the ducts and listening to 'Cosy', especially since we are approaching winter here in Australia. ;D Cheers, Len

Hi James,
Thank you for that. I must admit that I do not find it an easy one to play. I think it's getting the verse repitition right so that it flows properly. Thanks for listening.
Kind regards Roger
