HI TO ALL ,,can someone tell me what would be a good machine-head [tuner] brand ,to suit my squier project guitar... The std ones were ok with lighter strings but are a bit dogey with 12-52's ,how important are they really[quality that is???] & are the ones as on my US strat with the hold-down nut as apposed to the ferrule fitting as is the squier's that i have now ok... THe reason i ask is they although lubed they seem too tight especially the bottom E? ? well guy's I am getting my head around the new site ??I ''think''.. I miss the question-answer page that msn had .. PS gerebriel ,also told me he uses a home made EQ unit with the 2k section all the way-up,on sleep-walk,to give a little ''bell'' as he put-it..he does have the sound&ability thats for sure... CHEERS to all member's ..''aussie'' barry..

HI KEVIN ,,I don't know really ,but not necessarly the dearest ones ,but good ones....'' locking'' ,maybe just stronger type mate as mine feel as if they are ''straining''a bit much with the heavier strings... MY us- std has the same strings & is ok,,but they are marked fender & are held with a nut as well as screw's ?.. they would probably be ok but may cost ,lot's... ?thanks kev ,,,''aussie'' barry..

I have got a cheap set of Wilkinson locking heads on my Squier and they do the trick. I am thinking about a decent set for my Marquee though.

hi hoadlies. if you go to the well known auction site there are loads of new and used tunners at good prices. i think nearly all fender usa one`s are good. i dont like the sperzel one`s no reason just dont like them. the strings i use are 9`and 10` i have a strat here with 14` on but i dont like them much to much hard work, so find the 10` are a good all round size. when you buy a new fender they are normally fitted with 9`which must mean something if fenders send them out with them on.?? peter

HI ,peter,ron,uk-brian,kevin & all , well I bought the ''wilkinson-ezy-loc'' one's as in oz they are only $39.00 aud with postage, thats about 15-16 uk pounds??? i think ,[cheapscate] ? They are 15-1 ratio & had good revue's,the spertzels around$90.00 & gotoh around $ 70.00 ,, they are not here for a few day's I will let you know what I think of them when fitted .. SO thanks For your advise & as KEVIN has them fitted & say's they are ok that made it a better choice for my shallow pocket's... PETER you are probably very right on the 10's as that is what I alway's used ,BUT I wanted to try the 12-52's for a ''sound''reason ,but found i had to add springs etc to trem & then the tuners are not up to the job as well,, ''WHY do we do these thing's'' ?.. BY the way searching for the tuners I came across ''gotoh'' roller-saddles,to suit strat-type bridges? ???any ''thought's''.. ''OH"" brian what ''big'' ears you have, all the better to here that 100 watt marshall..HA,HAAR.. CHEERS fella's ''aussie'' barry..

Without seeing them I would guess that roller saddles would have a less efficient transfer of energy. Regards, Charlie

YES charlie you will be right there the wedge affect of the normal ''VEE'' type location is ,or can be rattle-free as well as a more positive anchor point,,& strat type bridges ,unlike the bigsby type do not need the movementetc etc .. BUT my original 46 year-old ''aria- diamond'' guitar's trem has to have rollers ,as it came new it had not much ''sustain'' & had ''nylon'' rollers ''yuck'' & I machined some brass rollers ,but although it improved a bit it suffers with rattle & I would like to fit a strat type trem a** but the body is too thin ,,, but on seeing these I can see that I may be able to build a new bridge set up using these well designed ;;gotoh'' saddles ,they are s/steel solid saddles with a small vee roller & have hieght allen screws for indiviual adjustment,as apposed to the ''aria's bowed bridge-insert,which is only adjustableas a whole ,or more correctly side to side ,but not each string if you get my meaning??? the actual trem is a much better to use & adjust than a strat type & I would dearly like to get the old ''aria'' to have a better sustain & attack ?? In any case I have ordered a set of the saddles [quite cheap here in oz] so ill let you know the ''outcome'' CHEERS mate ''aussie'' barry..

''aussie'' barry....... ...the Marshall is history, I need a change now and then No seriously, it was very heavy, no it was Bl***y heavy, so I sold it and now i'm running a Peavey ValveKing 100, about 10llbs lighter, same wattage but a wonderful tone, thro' as you may remember a pair of Neo thingy ( never could pronounce that word ) drivers. I have also added with Rons help an Alesis nanocompressor, really nice sound, all I have to do now is learn to play again Ha haar as you say down there. Ron.......the new amp head has a wonderful clean tone right up to the top notes, really pleased, mind you the excercise has cost me a couple of hundred, Quoting Hoadlies, "why do we do these things" . I have the answer to that one . Guitarists in the main are always striving for a "tone/sound" are we not ?. Just realised we are in the tuner/ m/c heads bit here, but never mind. keep well guys. regards. Brian
