Hi All,
I would appreciate suggestions on the correct way to play the opening four notes to Gonzales. I think it may be a slide from the 5 to 7 on the A string but I'm not sure it sounds right.

Hi Phil, That is how it was done as far as I know, at least it appeared that Hank did it that way when I saw him play it live, except that I think he now (or maybe always did) uses a D to E chord at the same frets (playing the 6th (open low E, don't miss this out), 5th, 4th, and possibly 3rd strings and only picking the D part with one hit and allowing the quick slide to do the rest). The trick is to do it quickly and precisely and stop the notes with your picking hand palm as soon as you reach the E, rather than letting the notes hang on. Regards, Charlie

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll give that a go. You are of course right about making sure to stop the note at the end of the slide up to the E, then you hear the echo repeats which gets close to Hank's effect.
