Hi All! My first post here, but i'm a long time lurker. Iv'e just bought a Squier Simon Neil Stratocaster, and wanted to share a demo i just made with it.It's a Fiesta red 60's model. The finish is exelent, and the pickups are made by the same factory that make the Tonerider pickups, and they sound very good. The neck is very slim and nice to handle. It's a thin tremolo block, and i have to use some tape to not get it lose. But it stays in tune.I think it's hard to find a better strat for this money. I recorded Frightened City with Digitech RP355 floor pedal. And Alesis Q2 with Charlie Halls latest patches.No.1 www.4shared.com/audio/TDtdF3nY/Frightned_City_Demo_Squir_Simo.htmlCheers! Roland

Hi Roland. I have just bought one of these guitars, mine was 3 mths old and bought from a friend who works in a music shop. What a guitar they are. I have a Fender stratocaster deluxe and Fender stratocaster standard and this guitar at a fraction of the price stands tall among them. The workmanship and finish is excellent. The trem, like you I use tape. I have done a wiring mod to it, basically just wired the tone pot to the Bridge pup, which I have done with all and fitted a better 5 way switch (imo). You have a great tone on this tune Frightened City and played lovely. All the best Steve

Hi Roland, It sounds excellent, and well played. I can imagine that guitar could put some US Strats to shame. Regards, Charlie

Thanks Stan! I can't garanti you get the same result,as i added more EQ around 600hz in my software recording program. But here you go! Pickup OFF WAH OFF Compr ON = DIGCMP,Sustain30,tone45,Attack 0,Level 50 DIST OFF AMP A On Vox AC15 Speaker BRT212, Ampgain 30 Amplevel 89 EQ A MIDBOOST Bass 9 MIds 1300hz "This will not get corect sound witout some added 500-600hz after"Midrng 10,treble -10,Presnc -5 Gate on THRESH 40 ATTACK 0 RELEAS 0 ATTEN 99 FX OFF Delay OFF Reverb ON Predelay 5,Decay 55 LIVNES 40 RVLVL 20 I exprement a lot with EQ,and as every tune of the old Shads recordings has a special sound,it needs special tweaks. I use to play the orginal with earphones as i tweak the EQ.
Good Luck! Roland

I have one of these, and have to agree about the quality - apart from the trem/bridge unit. Really lets it down, so I replaced it with a Wilkinson model, which gives a push-in trem arm (no play, once adjusted!), a really heavy steel trem block and the standard US-string/saddle spacing. This meant drilling-out the screw-holes, plugging with dowels and re-drilling to the required classic Strat spacing, but at little more that an hour's work it more than repaid the effort. The neck is pretty well perfect, and encouraged me to string it with 11s, rather than 10s. I'll stick with this set-up on this guitar. My only gripe is that, as I've mentioned in the past, I find the split-magnet design pickups just too weedy on the top three strings to really cut through in a band situation (which is why I upped my string-gauge). Bass strings are fine, though, so I'm going to have to replace the P/Us for something more classic - but the guitar is definitely worth it, and I love playing it.

Anyone tried to download backing tracks from Rolands link?
I went for Sound Of Silence and 4Shared let me know I couldn't download the file as
" The file is suspected of illegal or copyrighted content".
Anyone care to comment?
Alan

Hi Alan, For some reason that tune is well protected, even Hank was not able to use it as a backing track on Marvin Mastertrax. The only answer might be for Roland to post it with a different name. Regards, Charlie

Hi Roland, I don't know the guitar at all. My son has a cheap entry level Squier and it sounds nothing like yours. I see that you have performed some modifications. It soulds to be a very nice authentic sound from the Squier though, and well played too. Regards, Len

Hi Roland,That is an excellent sound you have there, ......... Just goes to show that its not always about one & two grand guitars tho it does help having those brilliant Charlie Hall patches. ...... Really good Roland,Well done. les.
