Hi All, I have tussled with this one. I have read so many posts as to 'what pickup', 'what sound', etc, so decided to have a go and do my best with it. The sound I have is the best that I can manage. I used to play it using the bridge pickup, but have now changed to the middle pickup after reading many postings. My line-up for this one:- 1979 US Strat. Strings D'Addario 10 - 46's. Yamaha MagicStomp - Charlie's patch 03. BOSS GE-7 with boost set at 1.6kHz (cutting gradually back at both sides of this boost). Roland Cube 30X Amplifier set to 'Black Panel' Bass 75% Middle 80%, Treble 60%. BOSS MICRO BR Digital Recorder. See what you think. Any comments good, bad, or other welcome. www.4shared.com/audio/YLzjD3qX/The_Frightened_City.htmlKind regards Roger

Hi Roger, Good sound from the middle pickup, maybe you cut the lower mids a bit too much on the EQ. Well played, except that in the choruses, the second line is against an E minor chord so instead of playing the C# note you should play a C. May players miss this important change so you are not alone. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie,
Many thanks for listening and your kind comments. I tried to get the sound more gruffy/punchy by removing some of the lower mids but perhaps I over-did it. Thanks very much for the observation on the chorus incorrect note. I had no idea. I will put these things right if I can and re-post (same thread).
Thanks again.
Kind regards Roger

Hi Charlie, I have re-recorded and increased the lower mids as suggested. I have also hopefully rectified the incorrect note which you kindly pointed out (I hope that I got the right one...). I hope this one is better. (Myself, I think that I prefer the sound of the 1st one) www.4shared.com/audio/tZFITxw1/The_Frightened_City_3.htmlKind regards Roger

Hi Roger, It sounds better to me, and the notes are correct now. The added mids have brought the guitar well forward now, it doesn't sound as distant as before. The guitar level could now be reduced slightly in the mix, I think you would like the sound better if you were to try remixing it like that. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie,
Thanks for your observations and help. I'll remix it with the lead guitar level slightly reduced before saving it to my archive.
Thanks again.

Hi Roger, That is now a very nice sound file. I did notice an improvement in the tone with the second file. But it wasn't bad before; just a slight improvement in tone I think. Charlie picked up that false note. I eventually did too (I think) - even though I certainly don't have his ears. ;D well done Roger. I liked it. Cheers, Len

Hi Roger, very well played and the sound is very very close. to me this track is a tuff nut to crack. personaly and this is Only my view. if you could re work the file and add a little more Depth or maybe reverb to the Guitar you would Nail it. but all in all very very good. Kind regards Lou
ps where in west mids are you!!!

Hi Lou,
Thanks for your kind comments. I might re-work the file, but not just at the moment as I am working on one or two others. I must say though, that I sometimes feel that they are a bit like an artist's painting. You never know when it's finished, and there is alway something that you want to tweak.
By the way, I live in Shirley, Solihull. Please see thread 'Apache (again...)'
Kind regards Roger

Hi Roger I have listened to both files for the first time and really enjoyed both, probably the second one has the edge, but both very well done. I have never played this one myself but its now on my 'to do' list. This forum has so many fine players and it just really fires you up to keep learning and improving. Best regards. Neil
