I notice some people add a little reverb to their sound files. Is there any type of reverb that sounds better with the Shadows style of playing i.e. Spring, Plate etc. I use Cubase 5 for recording plus either a Pod X3 or Tonelab LE for amp simulation, all of which have various types of reverb available, but I never know which type to use.

Hi Glen, Out of the choices offered in a typical unit I usually go for a plate, with a 100 millisecond predelay if that can be set. Definitely not a spring reverb, that is only for surf music in my view. I wouldn't add reverb at all to some Shadows tunes, mainly those using the Echomatic 2 type of echo (although there can be the odd exceptions), and I wouldn't usually add reverb for Apache, although a small room reverb could work for that. Hi Glen.
I use of 50 - 75 ms pre-delay.
When they recorded Shadows, Malcolm Addey used a reverb room (no information how large, it is demolished) and a tape delay of 50 ms = pre-delay to put Hanks guitar behind the direct sound. The Abbey Road studio is also relatively large 60'x38'x24' high, it is a Hall and will add reverb, they used screens in the studio and that damped it a bit, but how much who knows ? So some Hall relatively large and pre-delay of 50 - 100 ms will work.
Kind Regards, 26rednef
