Hello all,
I mentioned to friends the talk that has gone on regarding the different 10 band EQ's and that people are finding them very effective. This led to me having the opportunity to try an Alesis MEQ230 this coming weekend. I understand it is a 2 x 30 band stereo unit, but one band only can be used in mono.
If anyone has experience of this 30 unit (or any other 30 band eq) I would be pleased to have any advice you can offer as to its set up.
Thank you
Mick

Hi Mick, I had one for a while,I had it set like an upside down smile with the level increased a notch or two. I found it similar to a cheap eq pedal. regards gary

Hello Gary,
Thanks for that. It all sounds quite straightforward so provided it comes to hand I'll give it a try.
Cheers

Thank you Mick Hi Mick, I just got a Rane ME30S (30 band graphic equalizer) and I'm very happy with the features and the sound. For details and specific information you can find the product on this website: www.rane.com/me30s.htmlI took notice of it by watching the videos of james street, for example this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YY9wTEGOK_kI nearly took the setup that you can see in james video and it works very well! Regards, Bernie

There has been quite a few thoughts about where to place the EQ and how much difference does it make. In my scenario I am usually DI'ing direct to computer, so what I describe below may not be practical for many, but I think quite interesting.
I am using a a Tech 21 "Liverpool" combined with an MXR M108 10 Band EQ. Last night I tried a different order to the chain in putting the "Liverpool" first (Tech 21 recommendation when used with delay/echo), then EQ to echo and I was surprised at how much the echo seemed to have taken on a lot more character!
Previously I had experimented by putting the EQ first in the chain, then last, which didn't seem to make that much difference.
Regards
Gary

Hello Bernie.
Thank you for your comments and the links. James settings for the EQ look quite straightforward and I shall give them a try, providing the Alesis comes to hand. I must say that I think he has an excellent sound and his playing style is spot on. Perhaps the glass of wine shown helped a bit too!! I must also give that a try.
Cheers
Mick

Great thread Steve, the discussion here is sensational.
I`ve been thinking about experimenting with EQ for a while and after reading everything on this thread, I`ve decided to give it a try and as the Caline CP-24 is highly recommended here and at a reasonable price, why not. The only problem is that the only place I can find it is in China. I`ve bought things from there in the past but they don`t always arrive, I would prefer to buy locally here in Australia but can`t find any. I`m also happy to buy from the UK or US as I`ve bought stuff from both places before with no problems so, if somebody could suggest where I can get one, it would be much appreciated.
Cheers all
Adrian

Hi all,
This is a very interesting thread!
Mike, thanks for all the suggested eq settings in your post to Steve Reynolds on the 6th. How are you setting the eq on your amp when using these settings on the graphic pedal? I'm running a Boss graphic through my AC30 ( early naughties last of the UK made) and have to say that with the treble and bass right off as suggested in Ronnie Gustafsson's video, I find ithe sound very thin indeed.

John

Thanks very much Tonio,
I'm actually using the graphic in a Boss GT100 multi effects processor. I was really hopeful it would do the job and is ok with the bass and treble on my AC30 at around 25% but I'm thinking of investing in a GE-10.
Many thanks again.
Regards,
John

...... with the treble and bass right off as suggested in Ronnie Gustafsson's video, ..... Hi John Confusing/contradicting statements from RG in the video: normal channel >< bass and treble on zeroOne could almost get the impression that RG had forgotten how AC30's work, right Erik

Hi Erik,
Thanks for replying.
When you say '0' do you mean in the neutral mid position or all the way off to their minimum setting?
Regards,
John

I couldn't listen with my iPad until a few month ago when I upgraded iTunes, this upgraded my iPad when I plugged into my pc, now there's no problem.

....When you say '0' do you mean in the neutral mid position or all the way off to their minimum setting? The closest to neutral from the AC30 tonestack is with the treble and bass control all the way off to their minimum setting. And of course the tone controls only work on the Top Boost channel (hence RG's somewhat misleading statements in the video - unintentionally I'm sure). Erik

Hi All
I just thought id bump this back to the top for a quick update. I stopped using my EQ pedal when i got the Hall and Collins as it was doing a perfect job and i didnt want extra pedals and power supplies running. However as part of my bands ever increasing set list we are doing songs that require extra effects such as tremolo and distortion etc so i have been using the Caline along with my Zoom G1 and a couple of other pedals for rehearsals and it sounds incredible.

Fascinating thread Steve. I have only just caught up with it as I recently ordered one of the 4th batch of the HCSE and was about to buy the Caline EQ pedal as well, but now I will wait until I have heard the HCSE first. I have a Strat with CS54 pups and the Vox AC15 Heritage so I am hopeful I will get still closer to "that sound". Incidentally I have the ******* and whilst it produces a great sound it is very fiddly to use and the recommended settings for the Apache echo are either wrong or my unit has a fault - I get a triple repeat instead of a double and can find no way around it. So I am really looking forward to the HCSE.

There should be three repeats in the Apache echo setting - one short repeat then two later repeats.

Hi Roger, OK, near enough is good enough for some I suppose, as long as people who see the 4 taps I have used don't think I got it wrong! Regards, Charlie

Yep, I know what you mean Roger but I am getting a pause after I play the note and then 3 quickfire repeats, I forget what comes later and I haven't compared it directly to my EFTP units, I just know it is horribly wrong.
