Hi All
Like many of you im sure i have been chasing those magic sounds, the sounds of Apache, Wonderful Land, Kon Tiki etc I have spent a lot of money over the years on various amplifiers, guitars, echo boxes etc etc
The closest i got to the sounds i was happy with was with a Vox Ac30, Strat and Alesis Q2, it still wasnt what i was looking for but it was enough. I then managed to source a Meazzi Factotum and had it modified to replicate the early echo patterns believing that was the answer. I ended up being a bit disappointed as it was better than the Alesis but still wasn't giving me that magic sound i was chasing.
After spending hours and hours watching the TVS3 videos i became convinced the magic was in the TVS3 and was contemplating purchasing one however i then watched Ronnie Gustafsons videos and became convinced it was the Vox Long Tom. Thankfully i didnt manage to source of those as they are quite rare but one thing that was really evident in the both the TVS3 videos and Ronnies was the use of EQ. I tried many EQ settings on the vox and still couldnt get it where i wanted. I noticed Ronnie used a Boss GE 10 but sadly these are very rare and quite expensive etc.
Finally thanks to Roger Bayliss i stumbled upon the MXR 10 Band eq, this has the same bands as the Boss GE10 but is readily available, i didnt however want to spend £100+ in case it still wasnt what i was looking for.
Im pleased to say i then came across the Caline 10 Band EQ which is a copy of the MXR but only £30 delivered. I purchased one over the weekend and tried it at my Band Rehearsal last night and wow, with the settings that Ronnie suggested there were the magic sounds, the mid range strat bark.
I really do think that is the answer and that all this stuff over the years about pickups, strings, meazzis, blue speakers etc etc etc has a minimal effect but not as noticeable as the EQ and for £30 it has transformed my sound so much.
Hope this is of some help to people on here, its definately worth a try.
