Hi I have recently acquired a fender blues junior 111, and at the moment struggle to get an acceptable tone for my american strat, It has a volume and master control which I don't completely understand, and have tried various settings with the treble, bass, and the mid controls ,I seem to get either a really bright tone or a brittle but muddy sound ... can I ask if anyone else has this amp, and maybe advise me , or point me in the right direction, I play mostly R.A. and R.P. as well as some shads, I think what I am trying to achieve is 1 that fits all, without twiddling and tweeking Regards Colin

I set mine like this generally. Bass between 0-2, mids 8-12, treble around 8. I find an eq pedal like the caline really helps trimming off some fat. I normally have volume set around 4/5 and the master about 3. If you want to use it like an ac15 or 30 master up in 12 and just use the volume control.

Hi Scott thanks for your suggestions which I shall try, what I really need is some settings I can use in my studio, similar to bedroom use in terms of volume, still puzzled as to the volume and master controls, I guess as any other amp its a case of experimenting, I have had many other amps, but never struggled so much as I have with this one, just want a nice easy sound, maybe this lockdown is cooking my hearing senses , perhaps an EQ pedal may be the answer Cheers Colin

Hi Colin,
The way I understand it (I might have it the wrong way around) the volume is the amount of signal that hits the pre amp (like a gain control) and the master volume is what comes out of the end of the amp. I might of over simplified it but that's my understanding.
With regards to the eq, I have (like many others) a caline 10 band eq, and I use it just to cut the lower and higher frequencies, takes the boom and spikyness out which in turn focuses the mid range.

Yes, in simple terms keep the volume lower and the master higher. Regards, Charlie

Hi thanks , I understand volume/master now, so if I had a Calin EQ, and there are 10 bands to adjust, where do you start to set the EQ on the amp? cheers Colin

The usual way is to set the EQ flat to begin with, then set the amp to get as close as you can to the sound you want, then use the EQ bands to fine tune the sound. Regards, Charlie

Hi I am waiting delivery of an EQ pedal, and was wondering as to where is best to position it, do I connect between guitar and my Q2, or between the Q2 and amplifier ? Cheers Colin

Hi you suggest to start setting the EQ on my amp at 'FLAT', but just exactly were is that, is it all knobs at say 2 o clock, or all at 12 o clock, there seems to be many opinions ?? cheers Colin

I meant set the EQ on the EQ pedal to flat, ie. all bands neither cut or boosted. Almost all guitar amplifiers are not capable of being set to a flat setting, although several players assume the midway tone control settings to be flat. Actual settings vary a lot. Most Fender amps for example are closer to a flat setting when the bass and treble are set very low, and the middle control, if there is one, to maximum. Regards, Charlie

Hi Colin,
I'd set the amp as I suggested earlier (I'll take a photo of my caline eq when I'm home from work) but I completely cut the 2 lowest and 2 highest bands on the eq, then the rest I set like an upside down smile so its slightly boosting the mids. But just tweak it to your ear, I do mine.

Hi I have received a Caline 10 band EQ ,and I must say I'am very dissapionted with it, I first set it up with the 9v battery lead, and when it came to adjusting the sliders, there was very little background noise, so I thought well batteries are not going to last 5 minutes, so I bought a 9v 500ma AC/DC mains adaptor, switched it on, there was one hell of a click at first, and when I adjusted the sliders, the background noise was just unbelievable , now whether Ive bought the wrong adaptor...but it was advertised as the one for the caline,I am sure everyone on this site are satisfied with there Caline EQ , other wise it wouldnt be so popular, or is the noise I am getting like this on other Caline EQs Cheers Colin

Hi Len I understand what you are saying, and I may be naive in my purchase of an unbranded power supply, what does annoy me is the lack of instructions in the Caline package, not even any instructions, had I known this, I could have made a more positive purchase. I am not a big pedal user, hence why I dont have a master board supplying all other pedals, all my gear is rackmounted , which is ideal when space is a premium, which is why I only want a single power adapter, but what I can see on internet is that there is'nt many alternatives, other than the branded names ... this is all very well presuming that it is the adapter at fault? What do other Caline users use ? I am returning the adapter I bought, and continue with a 9v battery Cheers Colin

Hi Colin,
You could always buy a Boss or One Spot, both highly rated adapters. They might cost you thirty quid, but the Caline EQ is a good unit at a quarter of the price of some others, so you've still got a good set up for relatively little. If you take a look at the forum thread I mentioned the recommended settings are spot on and work for me every time.

As len said there’s more than enough information on the caline EQ in the link I haven’t had any information in the boxes of single pedals. about using them anyway. The caline is very good for the price

A bit dearer in the link but that’s Amazon prime look around there site and you can find it cheaper. Even if you don’t want something this substantial it may benefit you later and next time a pedal takes your fancy or you are curious as to what sound you can get power will not be a problem. I set out without any intention to use pedals but they soon mounted up. It’s space that’s the problem now
