Just remembered that your monitors are passive so it's possible that your amp settings could have changed without you knowing?

Hi Alan,
It's quite possible that your speakers have deteriorated over the years.
6'x 8' is not ideal for monitoring but would be ok with acoustic treatment, the chances are that sound from your speakers is hitting the opposite wall and then bouncing all over the place. The first thing I would do it hang a thick duvet on that wall, just to see the difference. I any case, I would get a few sheets of 2" Rockwool, cover with material and hang them on that wall, I would also put a sheet behind each speaker which should be away from the wall and not fixed to it. I have the above set-up myself and it works.
Adding Rockwool sheets to the other bare walls will also help no end.
The sound I have from my monitors is not exactly the same as from my headphones but very close, I use headphones for close referencing.

Spirit Absolute 2's are low price monitors, but the reviews have put them close to speakers of around £800.
The problem you probably have is as Mike suggested, room acoustics, what type of room have you got, size etc and where in relation to it are your speakers.
As for headphones, have you compared the old ones (that's if you still have them) to the new ones.

There is of course no comparison with the Ventures v Shadows playing Apache in that link but it has to be said that the Ventures are doing their own version which is totally different and obvious.
It does nothing for me, it is week and I feel it would have been better if the had'nt played it at all.
A comparison with WDR however is a bit different, as the two versions have a great sound, they are both full of energy and they are played extremley well, it's down to preference which one you like best.
I'm thinking hard about doing the Ventures version of this as I have'nt heard a good cover yet which is dedicated to the original sound.

Alan, try to monitor what is actually going on to the track, it's better that way, also headphones have not always the same sound as monitors.

Alan,
If it's your main output that's lacking treble etc, putting the file onto a cd and playing it via hi-fi etc won't give you the answer because all your doing is transfering the tune info onto it, which as you say is ok.
Your tweeters could be at fault or they might be ok and it's your output that's at fault by not giving you the high frequencies which your tweeters are not able to play.
Your best bet it to try other speakers on your gear.

If they are so good, why don't we have more people posting sound files using this guitar. I must say the same thing applies to the TVS Echo,I did try one myself and they are excellent, but where are the sound files? If I could sound like the demo's on their website I would post stuff daily. I am not criticising the TVS,I just find it strange that we don't hear more sound files using it. Alan Well Alan, i've posted probably over 50 tunes with one with not bad results Phil

I own a Custom Shop Eric Clapton Strat, it is sold as made to the same spec as EC's and set up the same, I have no reason to dis-believe this as the guitar plays and sounds perfect.
Some years ago I bought a Strat from China, it cost about £350 or there abouts, I bought it solely for use with a midi pickup so the sound was not important. After setting it up properly it plays good, the sound was a bit on the thin side, I later on as an experiment, changed the pickups for CS 58/62 ones, there was a noticable difference with the sound which was only to be expected, it still does'nt sound like my 63 Strat though because of other factors, but the point is, you get what you pay for in quality but like everything else, if the demand is there then the price will be high, whether justified or not.

Ly, what I meant was that the fridge would'nt have it's own supply and that it would be on a ring which might be the same ring as your recording gear.

My router causes a continuous clicking on my tv, not a single pop, I have to cover it's arial with a lead sleeve to stop it

Hi LY,
Usually pops and clicks are associated with clocking problems, word clock etc but as it's a new move and a new house there might be an electrical appliance like a fridge causing this. Sometimes it can be sorted with a spike plug which can subdue it, but I think your best bet it to put a dedicated spur in which is not attached to your ring mains that fridges etc are.

Erik,
We all did silly things years ago because these guitars were'nt collectors pieces, my guitar has been many colours including stained wood, I also painted flowers over it similar the Hendrix's guitar. It's had a power booster built in to it and two switches on the pickguard so that I could have any combination of pickups. A few years ago I did the same as you and filled the holes with a similar material, it's almost un-noticable but i've PS'd it out for this picture. I have a modern discoloured pickguard but i've decided to keep the original on it. When I re-sprayed it I made sure to put the same coloured undercoats back which are white, blue, red and brown!

Sorry also Andy!

Andy, I took and edited the picture in Photoshop, a combination of my 63 Strat and 64 Marvin which I bought on the well known auction site about two years ago, it was played by Hank. In fact I bought one new in 65, there were I think about 350 made before the company changed hands, so this "could" be my original one Phil

I've just seen a Strat that Bruce owned which is now for sale. It's a 1st edition 25th Anniversary 1979. It has the three remaining Shadows autographs on it, a letter of proof from Bruce, a gold framed vinyl record, original old beatup case initialed BW. The paintwork is a very light silver but totally crazed (100%) to the point where it really raised on the front and flaking off. The body weighs a tone, this strat is the heaviest one I have ever come across, it weighs almost as much as two Les Pauls, no exageration This is not a "Nice" guitar but the owner think it is worth £12k, maybe up to £3k is more realistic.
