Hi All,
Been looking toward the possibility of an EF86 preamp beast, and I can't find anything in current manufacture. It seems the only option is a Vox Heritage, but not many are coming up for sale. Does any member know of a manufacturer producing an EF86 amp currently?
Kind regards,
Chris

Hi Bernie, Thanks for the links, I would imagine the Amp to be far too expensive as they only give price by application, and I'm not interested in a pedal.
Kind regards,
Chris

Hi Chris,
I'm not sure if Roger Allcock still makes them but have you thought about his EF86 preamp that is retro fitted to your amp of choice, I like many other members I imagine have one on my AC30. I think I've had it about 18 years now and it is an amazing add on.
Thanks
Scott

Hi Scott, Thanks for your reply, I seem to recall Roger stopped making his "add on" some years ago, it would have been ideal for my AC15C1.
Kind regards,
Chris

Hi Chris,
Wondered whether you have considered building such a pre-amp stage yourself? You should be able to power it from voltages available in the AC15.
I built my own version as an add-on part to my AC-30 clone, using available power from the main amp. At the time, experimented with a number of valves; various EF86 (including the "S" version) as well as a number of other pentode valves as used in some Fender models. Such a pentode stage can be re-configured with a few switches to work as a strapped triode as well. That can be useful to obtain certain sound profiles as operating conditions and impedances are so different.
As you know, is a matter of personal taste as to the sound you are after. Being part of your sound chain, depends on what else you have to work with.
If interested, PM me and I can collect demo sound clips also schematics for you.
Best Regards. Johan.
