What also complicates things on some tracks is the spill from say Hanks guitar onto the mics of the bass, rhythm and drums, reverb also causes problems .

Thanks Rolf.
Thanks Kurt, to be honest, I can't remember what pickups I used, but the soundfiles were posted to give an idea what the AC30H2 sounds like.....however! To get close to the original recordings, more has to be done than just plug in and play, so it's not just the amp giving that sound.

All my files are with my 50th Anniversary AC30H2, I'll let you decide whether the tone stands up to the original early Shadows recordings The two channels (Top boost & EF86) are excellent, the EF86 channel has the original tone setting but also a VOX upgrade, the channel has the original sound, the only other tone controls that work with it is the top boost, I rarely us it but if I do it's very little and just to add a smudging of brightness. When using this channel the top boost channel can also be added by just turning up the volume. As for the Pentode and Triode switch, it works with both channels but it's your choice as to what sound you need. A "Named" sharp or dull pick, a file or sandpaper will do exactly the same thing in a couple of minutes, all you have to do is choose what it's made of and the thickness!
When I was into Jeff Beck stuff back in the 60's I used to make my own picks from all sorts of material including coins, Jeff in those days had rough edged picks which gave a scraping sound on the strings.

My memories of the "Real" Cavern, are, the stage was very small, when on it, it was like looking down a tunnel, the sound was not great from up on the stage as it bounced around all the brickwork. The so called dressing room "to the left of the stage when looking from the front and through a small bricked doorway" was a series of arched open rooms, my mother sent me a knitted jumper she had made, this was stollen when I was on stage, but all in all it was a great experience playing in this magical place, sadly no more!

Thanks for the info, Sandra. Didnt catch those but 'suffered' Macca at the Cavern which followed. Awful sound and undewhelmed by his choice of songs. And he banged on about being 'back at the Cavern'. No, he wasn't - that was demolished to build an office block. He was at a poor replica across Mwtthew Street. Not a patch on the original. Bests Ian I played at the "Real" cavern in 1966, it gets to me when friends visit Liverpool and say they went to the Cavern, it ain't the REAL one! Phil

I have a clip on my desk table where the headphones lead goes through, it's about three feet off the floor and stops lead dropping to the floor near chair legs etc, I'm not a fan of wireless headphones, too many gizmo's to interfere with sound.

I used a MKIV for many years, probably the loudest amp I've owned, great sound but like Paul, the downside is, expensive and very heavy, also, too many controls and the push/pull knobs add to this, you can get really lost when trying to get the sound you want as there's too many variations, when you think you're done, there's almost the same on the back!

Bruce's fast rhythm for example, much easier with a flexible pick, he uses one Phil

There's no "correct" way Tim, whatever you feel comfortable with, however, you would be better off with a more flexible one than a stiff one for fast picking like the gallop.

I'm so sorry Anja to hear about Rob's passing, we had lots of conversations about music and old guitars, he will be greatly missed.
