What sad news .... Ecca had a very unique playing style and a terrific sense of humour ... having met him several times he’s someone I regarded as one of me muso mates .... gutted, a great loss ......

How nice - he seems like a genuinely nice person. I met him once after a concert at the Coventry Theatre (around 1980??) - and he was funny then! He still signed my programme though - which I still have... This is a man that has nothing to prove to anyone - and with genuine humility. Respect. Agree - I was at the stage door after the same gig so we we’re probably in the same queue 😀

How would you describe the difference between Hank’s classic tone (i:e Apache, Wonderful Land, etc.) and his modern tone (Final Tour, etc.)? Tim. Worlds apart.

Really sad news - his legacy will live on through the HCSE, a great talent lost.
My sincere condolences to all his friends & family.

Great post Charlie!
Your lifetime's work means so much to so many people, none of us can thank you enough for what you have done.
I remember 35 years ago trying to get the right sound out of a Copycat and getting a rough approximation but nothing close - and then the Quadraverbs and EFTP came along - everything changed, and that's down to your hard work and tenacity. The HCSE is the icing on the cake and the journey is over for obtaining that sound, take a moment to sit back relax and smile at what you have achieved
well done Charlie

likely internal power supply issue if it's totally dead - that happened to my Q20 and it turned out to be the start up resistor in the switched mode power supply - fixed for about 40p.
Be careful poking about in the power supply - there's usually a large capacitor lurking in there which can give you a nasty jolt!

Hi All,
Normally I would email Charlie direct, but as he's not supporting EFTP I don't want to bother him as he has more important things to concentrate on!.
I've managed to lose the email with the EFTP patch listings for the Magic Stomp ..... (due to a computer hard disc failure) Can anyone please let me have a copy of the paperwork for the MS
many thanks Mark.

I know excitement is mounting, but can I suggest, for Charlie's sake, that everyone calms down with the "when is the unit ready", "am I definately on the list" type questions - the more space we give Charlie where he doesn't have to answer unnecessary posts (29 pages so far on this thread alone ......) then the more time he has to finalise the unit Once it's close the being available, I'm sure everyone will be made fully aware - I just think this must be distracting........

Hi Karl, I think people are only concerned about the support because I have made an issue of it recently. If I had said nothing no one would think about it. I am sure it will not be necessary to lower the price of the Q20 to half the price of a Hall & Collins echo! I believe there is a Q20 currently for sale here at £550. Regards, Charlie There certainly is ! although there doesn't seem to be many takers .... it's a shame as it cost me around £850 to purchase the unit in total - still I can look back on 7 years of phenomenal sound!! Karl - I'm sure there will be many people who want a rack mounted unit - time will tell!

Nick
If you get offered one, grab it.
I have one of the last Japan Custom Shop strats and it's superb and beats most USA strats hands down.

Hi Steve, the 56 NOS sound is 10/10 the only problem i found was the boat profile neck shape (small hands) and the nitro laquer on the neck can get sticky. Don't change the pups they are the best. Keith is right - the back of the neck looks amazing with high gloss but is unplayable as it becomes sticky with any kind of sweat. I got Pete Allen (guitar technical services - warwick) to take the top gloss layer off the back of the neck and now that it's nicely played in after 5 years - the neck is superb and no problem. Personally - I don't like brand new guitars I prefer them played in - just seem to play nicer and issues like neck gloss are long gone cheers MArk.

Steve,
go for it - you will not regret it and I bet you don't change the pickups either, the '56 NOS are fantastic!!
Where are you based? If you can find someone nearby who is willing to let you have a go without the pressure of a music shop environment then that's the route I'd take.
Will sound superb with the AC-15HWTV and the right echo
good luck! Mark.

Hi Peter
I have an AC4TV and it's great for home use.
Although the ESE totally overloads it and is unusable, the magicstomp and the Q20 are fine
cheers Mark.

Well this is how I play it .... The first part of the chorus is double stops ie two notes played together. you can also pedal the open D string through these if you want - - - - (ETC) That's a loose explanation which you can embellish with bends slides hammer ons and rakes - enjoy! Hi Mark I hope you are well. Thanks for the explanation. Its one of those tunes that aggravates - I have tried various ways of playing that bridge section and I have to say that your way sounds "right". You lern summat new every day. cheers Ian Hi Ian Yes fine thanks - trust you are! Like I say - it's not spot on to the original but it sounds right !! It's also the subject of my most embarrassing time on stage - I completely forgot how to play the chorus - twice (in the same rendition)!! Mind went completely blank and that's a horrible feeling!! cheers Mark.

Peter
What makes you think the valves need replacing?
In my experience, pre-amp valves will be fine, power amp valves may need replacing after time depending upon use.
My stage AC30 has had the same valves for 4 years or so and sounds fine (although I do carry a spare set in case of failure)
cheers Mark.

Well this is how I play it ....
The first part of the chorus is double stops ie two notes played together. you can also pedal the open D string through these if you want
First phrase "dont cry for me argentina"
2nd & 3rd string 7th fret x 4 2nd string 8th fret 3rd string 9th fret 2nd string 10th fret 3rd string 11th fret 2nd & 3rd string 12th fret 2nd string 10th fret 3rd string 11th fret
second phrase "the truth is I never left you"
2nd string 10th fret 3rd string 11th fret 2nd & 3rd string 12th fret x2 2nd string 10th fret 3rd string 11th fret 1st & 2nd string 10th fret 2nd string 10th fret 3rd string 11th fret 2nd string 8th fret 3rd string 9th fret 2nd & 3rd string 7th fret
then single notes:
"all through my wild days" 2nd string 7th fret, 8th fret, 10th fret 3rd string 9th fret
"my mad existence" 3rd string 9th fret 2nd string 7th fret, 8th fret 3rd string 7th fret x 2
"I kept my promise" 3rd string 7th fret, 9th fret, 7th fret 3rd string slide 9th to 11th fret 2nd string 10th fret
"Don't keep your distance" 4th string 7th fret x3 4th string 9th fret (or hammer on from 7th to 9th) 3rd string 7th fret
That's a loose explanation which you can embellish with bends slides hammer ons and rakes - enjoy!

I still think the GT is the best sounding Alesis for EFTP - although the patches on the Q20 are better.
the GT is not rubbish - it's one of the best!

It's because Google own You Tube and now that Google and Apple are rivals, all Google apps (eg Google Maps) have been removed.
shame ...although the new map function on the new iPhone is great !

Hello Ray Thanks for posting this very interesting observation of the factory , I have some issues with my custom shop strat also , I emailed fender several times ( they weren't really interested ) the birdseye maple neck felt it was never dried properly , when playing it the material they sprayed it with came off in my hand and when you tried to run your hand from one end of the neck to the other my hand would slow down and stick , the material that came off in my hand was like the material on a sheet of paper after rubbing it with a rubber , the guitar itself looks and sounds terrific , and i'm getting less material now but it's still happening after 5 years . enjoy the rest of your trip . best regards Murray. Murray - it's a reaction to the sweat and natural oils in your hand to the high gloss varnish they put on the back of the neck - it's a pain in the backside - high gloss looks great but it's not playable, or not least for me as I too was sticking when moving up and down the neck. The only way to cure this is to remove the gloss varnish from the back of the neck - I got Pete Allen guitar tech to do that for me and it's fine now. Eventually after years of playing it will wear off anyway, but it spoiled the playability of the guitar in the meantime. If you want a museum piece, keep it is it is - if you want a guitar to be played, my advice would be to get the gloss removed !!

It was really the provision of a second channel with an EF86. So I have 2 inputs ( the EF86 and the original) each with a separate volume control - and all switchable form 1/4W - 4W. The only other thing I wish I'd have had done is a cut control for the amp as there's no tone stack on the EF86 input - but as you've heard it's fairly spot on.
Given the time and components it wasn't overly expensive - you'd have to speak to Amanda (valvewizz) regarding exact pricing - let me know if you need contact details.
cheers Mark.

Hi Ade My daughter has had lessons for the past year or so - I bought her a Fender ESC80 which is a 3/4 size nylon strung guitar (she was 8 at the time) - it's a fantastic guitar which I regularly pick up and play! - the action and intonation is superb and having spoken to her guitar teacher at school it's the only guitar that stays in tune week in week out. Now I was 16 before I owned a real Fender guitar so it did feel slightly wrong to buy a top brand as her first guitar - but I don't regret it at all it's a fine instrument to learn on. And the best part??? You can get the from Soundslive for only £54.72 - absolute bargain and that includes a gig bag !!! www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~Fender-ESC80~ID~13008.aspgood luck! Mark.
