Don't own either but G&L and Suhr must both rank pretty high in a list of alternatives. Baz

Alan...... Peters advice in the last post is sound business sense.
If ,however you're regarding this as a personal project you will enjoy then go ahead.
Just be aware that your options for selling it on are severely compromised.
If you can get hold of a copy of "Fender electric Guitar Bible" published 2 years age by Anthem Publishing (who do the monthly Guitar and Bass mag.) they cover in some depth the exact project you are considering

There's on obvious pleasure in owning quality items but when they're functional you must be able to make proper use of them. Tiger Woods could hit a golf ball better with a garden rake than I could using a set of his golf clubs. ;D Spending £15K on a guitar ain't gonna improve my technique a jot Baz

Hi all. I still play the odd live gig with various old rockers and without fail we all put amps on chairs to de-couple from the podium.(xcept bass player) I'm afraid that room acoustics are probably more important than speaker enclosure design. I have found that the best live environments are either inside a large canvas marquee are completely open air where there are no reflected sound waves. Baz

Hi Ian.............Agree totally with the general thrust of your comment..........I'm continually amazed that there are so many people who seem to lose sight of the fact that a guitar is a MUSICAL instrument and if all you're ever gonna do with it is put it in a case and polish it, then.to me, you've lost the plot.
I can only see any guitar being worth really serious money if there is a direct (and proven) link to a famous previous owner (e.g. Page, Gilmour ,Hendrix, SRV Marvin, Me !!!!!!!!!!!etc).
Regards.

I've no access to photo files but Danelectro were well established at the end of the 50's and inuse by several famous players in the 60's (eg. Jimmy page) other than the Shads
I'm sure the famous longhorn bass dates from 59.
I believe the construction was/is not dissimilar to Mosrite'

Hi Guys. after a bit more research, I've now found that Mark Knopfler's first guitar was not a Futurama (which were imported by Selmer), but a Hofner...............for a german guitar, the ominously designated V2 model

Not 100 % sure but I believe a certain Mark Knopfler cut his teeth on a Futurama.
Lead guitarist in my first band had one.

Hiya Andy............ My opinion (for what its worth )is that strings are a personal choice and you should use whatever you are comfortable with and like the sound of. No matter how much cash and time we might lavish on trying to replicate someone else's set up, the one thing we cannot do is PLAY with exactly the same touch and feel. I play a good deal of finger style guitar but it would be pointless of me to try and play a Merle Travis piece with a thumb and just one finger simply because that was how he did it. Or if I was daft enough to try to play some of Brian May's solos from Queen tracks, what would be the point of me using a silver sixpenny piece rather than a normal plectrum. It would be abysmal no matter what I used. ;D Another point worth bearing in mind is that many top pro guitarists constantly experiment with different gauge strings, pick-up changes, shortening tremolo arms etc. Copying this is not going to help the average guy like you and me (well me certainly!!!!!) play and sound like them. So..my opinion would always be... plough your own furrow. Other than tribute bands, nobody ever made it big by imitating someone else. Regards Baz PS now whats that got to do with iconic 60,s guitars

An original composition based on a fast-(ish) 3/4 time. The Mazurka is a European traditional dance and I was prompted to write this piece after another member posted a waltz entitled "Kay's waltz"which got me thinking about breaking away from the normal 4/4 beat. Hope you'll find it of interest. Music is there to PLAY& LISTEN to, not to get bogged down in the merits of this stomp box or that etc. For those who need to know...Burns Marvin thru Blackstar ID15TVP. BT laid down on Boss BR1600 using on board DM and FX. Why not give it a listen and form your own opinion Regards..................Baz app.box.com/s/sgc3t032k1517dchscm9

Hi all and for comments. I,m still not sure that I got my original point across...........lets try again Why would you go to the trouble of accessing a music file thread and presumably read a string of what are generally pretty innocuous comments if you were unaware of what the MUSIC track actually sounds like in the first place If its not the MUSIC what are all these readers getting from the thread. Is it just cos there's nothing on the TELE? ? Still baffled Baz

Hi Guys and thanx4 taking time to read and comment........... The point I was trying to get across wasn't the lack of comments (I can understand people not feeling moved to say anything either positive or negative) but the low ratio of "listens" to "reads". Steve makes a valid observation that some people will revisit a thread to follow the development of coments but I doubt whether that would account for the 80%+ratio I quoted in my opening gambit. I still remain somewhat bemused by what many thread visitors are looking for when they (for whatever reason) do not listen to the associated music file related to the thread. Any-road-up............ I've aired the point and I'm not going to lose sleep over it. again guys. Regards...Baz

Before I kick this off "I'll get me coat" (and sort out my tin hat). Obviously we're all different and one man's meat etc......, but to me owning and playing guitar is about one thing........MUSIC!!!!.. If not then isn't having all the gear and technical knowhow a bit like owning a car and spending all your time polishing it but never driving anywhere. What's the point of this question? I just cant understand why visitors (and possibly some members) read sound file threads but then do not access the music file. To quote a current example I have a track posted on general access which has had over 240 hits but the music file (on box) has only been accessed just over 40 times. This is not in pursuit of personal vanity. I just find it completely baffling. OK so someone might read the covering text and think I'm not going to bother with this one, but 5 out of 6? . If I visit a soundfile thread the first thing I do is have a listen, then read the thread and then decide whether there's anything of value I can add by commenting. Do other members have the same experience and how about some comments from the non-listeners. Regards Baz

Hi Jim...............As Al says there are many perfectly reliable on-line suppliers. Prices vary little but my experience of different couriers varies considerably.
I bought a LP Ultra from GAK and FEDEX damaged the first two by (I guess) dropping the boxes onto the bottom end and punching the strap button into the bodywork.
My bet would be any dealer who uses City Link (I have no commercial link) which BTW includes Barry Gibson of Burns.

Hi Tony...............I hear a lot of posts where the "song" just doesn't work as am instrumental (in my opinion) but the strong, slow melodic nature of "don't cry...." is an absolute cert.
Played with touch and panache.

app.box.com/s/8k7tm38qnt2te4ktgrj5One of a series of tracks written and recorded during 2011/2. Here I'm playing my PRS SE Santana direct into a Boss BR900 adding only reverb to the signal as a loop effect. As normal, all the BT is my own production. Hope youll have a listen. Its much more interesting than just reading this covering text Regards Baz
