Hi Roger.....guess this proves the point that a good set of single coils on a decent lump of wood (looks like swamp ash?) is going to make very Fendery noises. Leos genius was in recognising this 60 years ago.

PS.have bought and sold guitars from Richard.................a real genuine guy with a passion for his business.

app.box.com/s/co48rbk8vokg0o66l2kuThe 60's wasn't the only decade to produce good music ....this is based on Richard Marx hit from the late 80's. Try You Tubular if you don't know the original. Recorded on a BOSS BR digital desk (using on-board drums and some FX)..guitars are USA Strat Deluxe, Babicz Identity acc..;Squier PJ special Bass and Yamaha E323 Keys for synth and percussive effects. All comments welcome. Baz PS In view of the interest in the BT for soft summer shadows heres a link to the BT.for Hazard Feel free to have a go and post your version. app.box.com/s/obqit6ffxcdrzly9t4mh

app.box.com/s/7ha9upei41phbhelw7f2Picking up on the theme of "summer" created by Hank's recent new CD, here's a self-comp which hopefully fits the mood. Recorded on a BOSS BR 1600 desk using onboard FX and drum patterns, the lead is on a USA Deluxe Strat via a zoom G2Nu,....also using a Squier bass and a Yamaha E323 Keyboard. Your thoughts ,suggestions and criticisms are all equally welcome Baz PS........ heres a link to my BT which feel free to download if you fancy a go. The second guitar (harmony line) is on this track app.box.com/s/bzxar4rwcbxfsf7xry1a

The quote "the more I practice the luckier I get" is actually attributable to golfer Gary Player (who was a great colleague of Arnie Palmer) who made it to a spectator (on television) who had the nerve to describe (in Player's hearing), the fact that he had holed out from a bunker as a fluke.
Same principle ....just a different application.

From the lack of posts on this topic, it would seem that few UK members actually watched this programme Seems odd given the subject matter and the inclusion of both Hank and Bruce . Baz

Overall disappointed..............just a handful of great riffs and a lot of wandering around into various ways the guitar has been used in modern music..........Nothing from the Beatles? ?(E.g Paperback writer) and only the odd nod to the Stones(Keith Richard must surely have come up with many more memorable riffs than Johnny Marr and the Smiths for crysake ) I don't think the producers really got a handle on what a riff is. I've covered Johnny B Goode at many gigs over the past 50 years and love Chuck's music but I wouldn't call his intro a riff. This was amply illustrated by several different versions played by Joe Brown, Brian May etc. To me a riff is a musical motif that everyone would play note for note. Baz

Getting on for a tenner for a pick ................ ??........You could buy a lifetime's worth for that much (unless you're gigging regularly.) Baz

The size, weight and shape of a pick is a totally personal matter. Thinking a particular pick might make you sound better is like imagining you could play golf like Rory McIlroy if you own the same clubs he uses. You might be right-handed but that's where the similarity stops. Baz PS man up guys and learn how to play with your fingers .

app.box.com/s/4dmwa266r7mcaryzpg7jA great oldie from Ray which I've taken a few liberties with. Recorded on a BOSS BR1600 desk using inbuilt FX and Drum machine, I've used a Strat Deluxe on posn4 (Neck and Middle), a Martin OOOM, a Squier PJ special Bass and a Yamaha E323 for keys and percussion (own BT obviously) I could make the BT available if there's interest but there's a glitch towards the end which would need correcting. (simples,...eech) Any thoughts or comments welcome. Regards Bazz app.box.com/s/r0q2te6i36ouvaw8h9lo Link to the BT

app.box.com/s/2pil6cf9t2y9amhfw0tfrather than start a new thread here's a link to a cuppla photos of the birds eye maple neck on my £200 Squier PJ Special Bass from 1999. It is jazz bass width at the nut and I use 50-105 round wounds. It will be on my next soundfile. (01/07./.now posted "You don't Know Me")Its had a fair bit of use but plays superbly. I was brought down to earth with a thud when I was poncing about with this bass (in the music shop when I first bought it) by a super bassist who commented "it ain't how it looks mate...........its what you can do with it that counts" Your custom shop P bass looks superb. Baz PS....body is candyapple red

Kevin.....many thanks for posting this link....I've dismissed Steve Vai as a shredder in the past without really listening to him........bt having watched this thru half a dozen times I'm just floored not so much with his speed and dexterity but the awe-inspiring quality of his touch and feel on the slower passages....and playing those octave phrase by brushing the strings with his thumb whilst muting the unwanted strings with his fretting hand............wow.

George..........my guess is it'll sound just like a Strat ......but I guess that's exactly what you want. I personally have small hands and find my PRS SE short scale (24.5) much easier to play than my Strat and Tele. I haven't noted your reason for wanting a short scale.......is it just like Mount Everest.....it needs climbing just cause its there?? Regards Baz
