Hi Roy...........Alan is absolutely right to warn you about changes you would need to make if you go to much heavier string gauges...... Don't forget that Tony Iommi (generally regarded as the instigator of the heavy metal riff) uses 8's !!!!!!!!!!. I 'm currently trying Rotosound stainless steel 10's on my Burns Marvin .. I'll be posting a new track in the next week or two that feature these so watch the sound file page if you want to hear the result
Regards .Baz

Hi Guys (Chris, Neil & Alan) and thanks for your posted comments. I'm dead chuffed with the guitar but if there's one lesson to be learnt at the moment its that the current heat and humidity are not great for keeping a guitar in tune for very long. I hear one or two slightly flat notes on close appraisal. again Baz

Hi Tony. I reckon this is pretty spot-on although I haven't got the original for comparison.
Sounds as close as it's gonna get to me...Well done

app.box.com/s/dp7xgote0sew879jnq33After recently exhorting others to try writing original material, I've broke ranks with this golden ( and much recently covered) oldie . My excuse is a recently acquired Burns Marvin and this is really a test piece to try the range of tones available. Its a bit rushed so please excuse the odd fumble and recording faux-pas. Put thru a Blackstar ID15 TVP using the onboard FX into a Boss Digi Studio. My own BT Baz PS any thoughts on what works and what doesn't would be very welcome

Hi Neil.... thanks for having a listen and posting comment... As I write nearly all my own songs then I have to create the BT to go with them. I do this the old fashioned way of one instrument a time on an elderly Boss BR 900.. Takes time but I enjoy it (well most of the time!!!!!) Thanks again. .Barry (baz)

Hello Kay and thank you so much for your generous comments. It makes all the time that goes into track like this so much worthwhile when guitarist colleagues such as your goodself take the time to listen and post feedback. I'm sure you know from your own experience that you rarely feel totally certain that you've pinned down your best effort and I hear a number of notes and phrases I think could be improved on but eventually you have to move onto the next song and leave it well alone... Once again... thank you.. very much appreciated ... Barry (baz)

A track I wrote and laid down in 2012 using my PRS SE onto a Boss BR 900 desk. Main line is just with reverb. All BT my own production obviously Completely different from the 60s style I now write but hopefully of interest to solo guitarists. Why don't you give it a listen instead of just reading this post? www.box.com/s/fp64oqocblk3fsdzw832

Hi Maurice..........Firstly just to say that I trust the operation has been a total success and that it has made an appreciable difference to your wellbeing.
I have a very early Squier CV 50's. Well set up its a great piece of kit but I have upgraded to "axes r us" class act pups. You will know only too well that all opinions on tone are totally subjective and without being able to conduct direct A-B comparisons it comes down to what you are happy with.
I'm not sure it will help but I have recently posted two of my own compositions on the members only sound files (Deep shadows and Soft shadows) both of which feature my CV with the new pups.
Best regards Baz (new recruit to charlies but strat player for 50 years+)

www.4shared.com/mp3/e5GudIxQ/Soft_Shadows.htmlThis is the second in a series of my own compositions which I hope will evoke memories of the guitar instrumental style popular in the early 60s which is when I was first introduced to the electric guitar. I play a Squier CV Strat with "Class Act" pups and record thru a Blackstar ID15TVP onto a Boss BR 1600. All sounds other than guitar are from my Yamaha keyboard. Drumtracks are composed on the Boss onboard DM. It takes quite a time to get to a final track I'm happy with. Hope you like it.. Bazz PS any constructive comments are most welcome

Hi Noel..I remember going to a Barney Kessel gig many years ago (with a young Martin Taylor on stage with him) and in general banter he mentioned that someone had expressed surprise that he occasionally used his thumb on the low E to which he said he had retorted that he would happily use his dick if it improved his playing.. The mind boggles!!!!!!!!!!! but I don't think you sould worry about only using 3 fingers! Regards Bazz

www.4shared.com/mp3/-5G-1oP3/Deep_Shadows.htmlThis is my own composition and recording of 1960's style guitar instrumental when the "clean" guitar sound was far more in evidence. Recorded on a Boss Br series digi studio with all e-guitar parts added via a Blackstar ID15. Guitars include squier CV 50s strat and m.i.m.tele. Organ, bass and percussion all via Yamaha keyboard and onboard drum machine. All rights reserved please. Baz Ps. all costructive comments/criticism is invited

B'y Hell Roger. If they are "as loud as valve" I should think the 120w model would be up for metal gigs! Regards Bazz

Hi Roger. Have recently bought the 15w version which for £200 is a sensational piece of kit for home use and recording. Good to see a british company at the forefront of the field again.
Kind regards
