A brand new shiney knob at less than a £ would do the job every bit as well but beauty is in the eye of the beholder--so is value!--Perhaps that is what the seller is relying on. Personally I think anyone who would pay that for a knob should have their 'bumps felt!' From the sellers perspective --'if you don't ask you don't get' and he/she would argue that its not the knob for sale -rather the 'provenance' What a laff!! Regards David

Thanks Charlie--I've ordered some to try out. My preference was for 11's but they were showing no stock so I emailed them and if anyone else is in the same boat I'm happy to say they emailed me back advising that they have just got new stock of 11's in. Regards David

My biggest regret was an original pink paisley 'Summer of Love' USA Fender Telecaster. Bought new in 1969 for £180. Used for 3 or 4 years and sold to a shop along with a small PA for unmentionable money because it was so little I can't remember. These originals (if you can fine one) would command huge money now so I'm really sick!!. Best 'escape' a first year Gibson Les Paul Deluxe ( '69?) in cherry sunburst-- mint but used--price paid in 1970 £230--now unplayed really but much loved--I still have it and plan to give it to my nephew who is showing a bit of an interest for his 21st birthday Regards David

Don't know what made me think it was your first string affected cause you didn't say--its just that I have had the same problem in the past and it always seems to have been the top E--its dangerous to assume! D

I don't believe that trussrod adjustment would have a marked effect Alan anyway. Is it just the first string or are others affected? What gauge are you using and is the 'sharpness' really audible or are you relying on a electro tuner to tell you its sharp?BTW don't be afraid to turn the adjuster screw as many time as it takes--thats what its for!--Remember you can always turn it back as necessary! Its just possible too that you might have got a duff string ? Regards David

Not an uncommon problem Alan especially if using worn strings or changing gauges etc. See attached link for explanation and remedy Regards David

Thanks for the input guys. Charlie I think the description states that you can adjust the level of individual heads. My fear with any of these 'lesser known' machines would be that if something went wrong with itwhere on earth could you get it looked at? (barring Russia of course!)

The spec of this encourages me to believe that it would be suitable for achieving those multitap repeats that we crave.Any opinions? cgi.the well known auction site.co.uk/ws/the well known auction siteISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150565355676&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:1123 Regards David

Got to agree--if I want it 'reliced' I'd rather do it myself--naturally! It costs less and no amount of artificial wear can beat the good ol'honest to goodness character of a well played in (used not abused) instrument!--I figure its all a bit of a fad or just todays fashion? What's the statement made or whats proved by half beaten to death new instrument straight out of the box?? Perhaps its cool?? Regards David

Just to keep interested parties informed. This echo was a non performer and pretty useless when I got it so I returned it for a refund.--Cost me £21 in shipping to return but at least I hadn't been charged p&p by Westend!--You live and learn!

Just a quick but huge public thank you to Charlie who took time to help me with loading EFTP on my MS yesterday. The load took longer than I think either of us had thought it would and was well 'beyond the call of duty' on Charlie's part. Many thanks for your time and expertise Charlie--you're a star!! Regards David

I had been looking for one of these for a while and have discovered that they are pretty thin on the ground so I bought this one --it arrived today. Its in reasonable condition as stated in the vendors ad but could do with a bit of a clean up but that will not be a problem.I've been collecting old echo chambers that take my fancy for quite some time and have had or still have quite a few. Currently I have 2 x Korg SE 500;2 x Korg SE 300; 1 x Binson Echorec2; 1 X Roland SE 301; 1 x Roland 501; 1 x Klemt Echolette 5: Copicat IC 300; Dynacord NG51(same as the Echolette but in a different package) . They're all in great condition but being only an amateur tech myself those that required it visited the right people for a 'tune up' ie ESE/Staedel/Delatronics etc. I have also a few of these digital delay things as well but like most of us much prefer the old tape/disc machines. Don't we all have our own wee way of going mad??!!

Isopropyl would be the preferred solution. I would be wary of chrome cleaners or in fact any 'metal' cleaners that may contain abrasives--pretty sure to cause damage. I have had good results with meths.

Hello all This is my first post so please be gentle with me!! Everyone seems to have different ideas about setting the floating tremelo on a strat--I've tried all already mentioned but have found that within reason any combination of string gauge and number of springs used will keep in tune using the set up method I use. The 'physics' of this method assumes that if the tension of the springs is set exactly equal to the tension presented by the strings and that there is no strings bind on the nut or bridge (of course this should be checked). If you can achieve this 'happy equilibrium' the guitar should l return to pitch after even the most violent whammy exertion!--Heres the secret that works for me!
a)Remove tremelo back cover--remove old strings--loosen the trem springs--ensure that the bridge mounting screws are not so tight as to prevent up/down travel of the bridge--restring with the gauge of your choice and tune the strings well above pitch--This will have the effect of pulling the trem block towards the butt end of the guitar.
b)Insert tremelo arm and pull it upwards-- the tremelo block is now pulled forward (towards the neck). You will observe that there now is a gap between the tremelo block and the guitar body
c)Place a shim of wood or similar material (approximately the full width of the trem cavity)cut to the right size into this gap and release the trem arm so that the trem block is pulled forward again by the tension of the strings and grips the inserted shim fairly firmly
c) Check that the bridge is in the preferred floating position and tune and adjust the action and intonation as desired.
e)Now we have the guitar tuned and set up the way we want but the trem is 'locked'--heres the fiddly bit.On a flat surface--table/bench or whatever lay the guitar on its back.Holding it so that we can access the trem spring screws from underneath (awkward I know ) tighten the screws bit by bit so that the trem block is again pulled towards the neck and the shim slips/falls out.If the guitar is set up to your taste keep the shim for possible future use.
If you have done this correctly you should now find that your string /spring tension are equal and provided that there is no nut/bridge string binding. You can now wobble away and the tuning should return to exact pitch. I have been able to set up many strat trem type guitars with differing string gauges/number of springs and using this method where even dive bombing and severe use of the trem leaves the tuning unaffected.
This set up is harder to explain than actually do--and of course it goes without saying never force anything in its application.
Hope some of you will find this useful and it helps to get your nearer your ideal setup.
Regards David

If the ads are a real bother to you you can opt for the subscription service @ £4.99 per month. I seem to remember that you used to be an option that gave you a day of ad free streaming for 99p too but that seems to have been withdrawn now.Its a brilliant site catering for a very wide range of tastes but there are some omissions which I suppose are down to licensing agreements (or lack of) with artists/management etc ie no original Beatles music etc.
