This is brilliant...and, right now, appears to be free! This could be one of the most comprehensive goto knowledge bases for the aspiring and established guitar player. Kudos to the author. Quite clearly much time and effort has gone into the creation of this wonderful website. Also, it’s presentation is very user friendly, and there is an associated forum.
Thank you, Hendrick, for the heads up. Great find!

Hi, I share all the sentiments expressed in this thread. It is a very sad day indeed. Like David Attenborough, I had come to believe that George would always be around to educate us and offer his expertise as needed. I will remain forever grateful for all his contributions. As an example of his generosity of spirit while offering his experience, wisdom and, yes, humour helping an enthusiastic albeit ageing ‘guitarist’, this must be a typical and illuminating example of the measure of the man: charliehall.proboards.com/post/191138What is the measure of a man? Is it strength? Intelligence? Or fearlessness? The ability to lead others down the right path? The ability to inspire the seed of greatness in those who need encouragement? If the aforementioned are measuring tools, Then many live life as men. Do you wear your love for God like shining armor? Is the love of God resting upon and guiding you? No one can question your strength, intelligence or leadership. There are plaques, and championships to prove the ability to lead. Measuring sticks the world uses to define a man. What can’t be measured is the soul of a man. A man’s soul is the inward interpretation of his outer shell. May your soul catch fire. The flames of decency, honor and integrity burning bright. Bright enough to light the way For hundreds of young men in the dark. Bright enough to bring honor To a world forever changed by your presence. Bright enough to heat the souls of younger men you leave behind. The true measure of a man is the legacy he leaves. Be you husband, father, brother or friend, Leave your torch burning brightly, And we will never allow the flame to die. As we are all warmed by the fire of a true Man. Traquita Thomas“The true measure of a man is the legacy he leaves.” We can be thankful that part of his legacy will remain for all to read on these forums. Mike

Hi Istvan That was excellent great sounding track Kay +1 👏😀 Love the Roxlut! The builder deserves high praise for his excellent work. Very authentic sounding rendition of FT from The ‘Baldies’ 👍 My unit developed a hum in ‘22. However, this was remedied very effectively by swapping out the rectifier and output valves. Not looking forward to removing the ECC83’s at some point in the future as they are both very tightly seated in their respective sockets. Best regards, Mike

Hi Istvan,
Now, that’s more like it - Quality with a capital ‘T’! Very well done! Pity the video stopped before we could witness the audience reaction. Good to see and hear the Roxlut perform outside a domestic setting.

Hi Istvan,
Well done! Is that the superlative ”Roxlut” amp? Along with the H&C Signature Echo, it certainly deserves a mention. 😉 After Zambesi finished, YouTube took me to your band’s cover of Peace Pipe, another great performance!

Hi Charlie,
I imagine they are waiting for the markets to stabilise.
2023-2024 will be transformative years for the world’s economies. Take China as an example. Since the reversal of their unrealistic Zero Covid Policy we are witnessing a ramping up of their manufacturing output with the goal of increasing their GDP. That has to be good news for the electronic component industry and the worldwide availability of their products.

Hi everyone, As most of us are aware, difficulties surrounding the sourcing of a variety of electronic components is currently threatening the resumption of production of Charlie’s unique and innovative EF86 Pedal and the remarkable Hall & Collins Signature Echo which many of us are very fortunate to own. Consequently, my understanding is that, and for the time being, this has forced the unwelcome withdrawal of the latter from the market while the former has yet to enter the production phase despite design finalisation and successful builds of pre-production units. However, and not before time, there may be some glimmerings of light appearing on the horizon: www.designnews.com/electronics/good-news-electronic-component-prices-stabilize-inventories-easeWhat is certain is that any ongoing pessimism and negativity will serve only to ensure an unwelcome future outcome. We should try to remain positive and, to that end, do what we can to convince Charlie Hall and his chosen Manufacturer that the demand and enthusiasm for his excellent pedals are still there and, with appropriate publicity, will grow exponentially as soon as production, with or without any design modifications, can be resumed. Best regards, Mike

It seems there are not really enough people interested in it for it to be worthwhile now. Hi Charlie, Can you be sure about that? Are you suggesting that there were never sufficient numbers to justify going to manufacture with a decent prospect of achieving a good return? How about conducting a Poll or PM/emailing everyone here to reaffirm their interest in purchasing a unit? Seems to me that you can’t predict the likely market without first advertising the existence of the product beyond these forums. The beauty of being able to capture that unique sound by using this pedal with any amp must have huge appeal. Who wants to purchase and lug around an AC30 when the EF86 pedal will deliver the goods just as well when coupled with your favourite amp? The reversal of component shortages must be a global priority. It could take another year or two, but the imperative is there. I predict it will happen sooner rather than later. Regards, Mike

Hi Charlie,
Chin up! One thing is certain and that is you are far from being alone. We are all waiting anxiously for things to improve...and, in time, they will. Industries and governments around the globe are strongly motivated to drive forward relentlessly to find ways through this period of economic gloom. Covid-19 Pandemic, Lockdowns, Russia’s barbaric war in Ukraine and its ramifications were/are significant contributory factors. However, positive progress is occurring on all fronts. We must try to remain patient. Things will get better!
Best wishes, Mike

Hi Steve,
Thank you very much for taking the time to react so promptly and for your detailed explanation. It’s greatly appreciated! Any pre-existing doubts and anxieties will have been tempered by this clear demonstration of your willingness to answer our shared concerns surrounding these unfortunate delays. In particular, it appears we can now look forward again with renewed confidence to the launch, hopefully in the not too distant future, of this much anticipated product.
Your undertaking to provide us with updates on progress, as and when you can, is also confirmation of a desire to maintain excellent customer relations and we applaud you for that!
Kind regards, Mike

Hi Derek,
Thank you very much for responding! I’m sure I speak for everyone here at CH&Fs in hoping you and your colleagues at Electromech have remained hale and hearty throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and are now looking forward to returning to more normal manufacturing and business activity in the near future.
As you are aware, this thread is devoted exclusively to Charlie’s unique and exciting EF86 Project and it’s good to know that Electromech are monitoring our interest and burgeoning enthusiasm for the product. Also, you will know that numerous contributors (myself included) to this thread have asked Charlie to add their names to his list of prospective purchasers just as soon as the EF86 pedal unit is released to market....and this is only the start.
Charlie has done his very best to keep us up to speed with progress over the past 3+ years and our understanding is that most, if not all, the development/design and manufacturing issues have now been resolved. That being the case, I’m sure you will appreciate our concerns that any further delays before the product can be released to market are now kept to a minimum.
Feb 21, 2019 (Quote from Charlie Hall: “I believe there is nothing else quite like it on the market (emulating 2 different EF86 preamps, emulating the EL84 power amp, and emulating the speaker sound typically heard from those amps).”
There seems to be little doubt that this versatile pedal will prove to be a game changer. With appropriate marketing and targeted advertising the potential for sales around the globe could be very significant, possibly huge, especially in the USA, as nothing comparable to what this unit has to offer has existed before now.
We do appreciate just how frustrating these delays must have been for all concerned and, we have been told, much of it has been unavoidable. It is to be hoped that Electromech is now finding itself in a better place and, hopefully, can allay any further anxieties surrounding this project by giving us a timeline for expected release to market. This would be extremely helpful as well as releasing Charlie from having to respond to our never-ending requests for progress updates.
With best wishes and kind regards, Mike (proud owner of the Hall & Collins Signature Echo)

I think interest from potential customers directed to them could help. Regards, Charlie Hi Charlie, Yes, I agree. We are now 3+ years down the line since the announcement of the EF86 project. A great deal of interest has been expressed and registered throughout this somewhat protracted period, and yet I suspect the manufacturer (? Electromech) may be feeling uncertain as to how such interest will continue to translate into firm orders. The irony, of course, is that they themselves seem to have been largely responsible for arriving at this position. We know Covid-19 and repeated lockdowns have been unavoidable external factors contributing towards these delays. This will soon be changing for the better, as will the strengthening drive towards economic recovery in the UK. We must believe that this return towards more normal activity will be reflected at Electromech and, more importantly, that they will honour their intention to bring the EF86 Project to market. Lest the good folk at Electromech forget, the success of this project is not dependent solely on our interest and enthusiasm. If large volume sales are to be achieved then the unit needs to be priced at a level sufficiently competitive to actually get it out there. Profit margins are important but, pitched too high, will be small consolation if the unit fails to sell well. Once it’s being used and the reviews start to appear, the market will quickly appreciate the unique implementation of a very clever concept and also the impeccable provenance that underlies the creation of this pedal. Consequently, it’s a safe bet that the popularity of the EF86 Project pedal will grow quite quickly. Indeed, I expect to witness it becoming a coveted industry hardware standard eagerly sought after and adopted by guitar musicians around the globe. I continue to favour giving Electromech the benefit of any lingering doubt since we know that, given the opportunity, they will certainly do a great job. Consequently, I second your proposal that we, each in turn, encourage further progress by reaffirming our intention to purchase the product. This can be done directly by communicating with Electromech or here in this thread at CH&Fs. Charlie, I would like to set the ball rolling by confirming my interest in the EF86 Project and also my commitment to purchase one unit. Regards, Mike

Hi Charlie,
Time for another update methinks?
Should we be considering forwarding our frustrations to the manufacturer or would such actions just succeed in muddying the waters unnecessarily? Why do they continue to drag their feet? As interested parties, are we even entitled to ask for an explanation?
At this point, perhaps a few words from the manufacturer on this forum might have a positive effect towards helping to allay our concerns.
I doubt the ‘Dragons’ would accept such ongoing delays as being in any way reasonable or acceptable. This all seems so surprising after the exemplary service delivered surrounding the bringing of the Hall & Collins unit to market.
Best regards, Mike

I was shocked this afternoon when I opened the ‘General’ page. We all know that the unexpected can and sometimes does happen, but this?! Surely we need some further confirmation before accepting this dreadful news as fact? If indeed this proves to be true then, of course, I join with the rest of you in mourning his departure from the community here at CH&Fs and offer my heart-felt condolences to his family.
His masterful execution of the numerous song files posted here were and continue to be admired and enjoyed by many, including myself. His helpful, selfless and enthusiastic contributions on these forums were a hallmark of the man. A true gent in every sense of the word.
There is no doubting that he will be greatly missed.

Hi Charlie,
Wow! I’m pretty sure I speak for everyone when I say we do understand just how frustrated you must be feeling. Maybe it’s time to tell them that the natives are growing restless. Surely they wouldn’t want to lose potential sales and customer goodwill by dragging their feet in this way? They did so well with the H&C it’s really surprising that they would risk placing their reputation for efficiency and excellent customer support under threat. Makes no sense.
Best regards, Mike

[quote author=" Charlie Hall" source="/post/214365/thread" timestamp="1601902735" Stephen at the factory is waiting for a modified version of the casing that will hopefully not let dust in so easily. [/quote] Hi Charlie, Might I be so bold as to ask what explanation is being offered for the delay? Can’t imagine that the process is overly complex and I doubt whether Covid-19 can still be regarded as a legitimate excuse since it should be assumed that all mitigation measures will now be in place at the factory. Just saying 😉 Best regards, Mike

Yes, my wife and I have developed a healthy disregard for all numbers we do not recognise. Having the phone ring 7 times before ‘Call Minder’ intervenes is a distraction, but a small price to pay for keeping all the nonsense at bay. Those genuine callers will likely leave a message that can be vetted at our convenience. In reality we cannot say we are overwhelmed by cold/nuisance callers. Perhaps their automated systems strike you off their lists after a certain number of denials...who knows? Whatever the solution adopted, it’s important you retain control of such uninvited and unwelcome events in our lives. Same with the Internet and email, maintain a high level of suspicion at all times.

Hi Carl, I have a working black painted prototype EF86 Emulator unit now.... Regards, Charlie Hi Charlie, I don’t wish to badger you unnecessarily but, just to clarify, does that imply that all the issues, as described previously in this thread, have now been resolved and you have an approved fully working unit that can be released to manufacture (and market shortly thereafter) when all the relevant parties are cleared for safe resumption of work? I do feel for you. These unwelcome impediments to progress with the EF86 Project must be proving to be extremely frustrating. Let’s hope we are now glimpsing that hitherto elusive and tantalising light at the end of this particular tunnel! Good luck and fingers crossed! All the best. Kind regards, Mike
