I'm with Phil C on this. I'd just add a kick drum from a keyboard......must be the simplest solution. I've done it myself by adding further sounds to live recordings with acceptable results. Regards Baz

We're getting a bit off the topic but I personally judge guitars by the way they feel to me and respond to my (pretty basic) playing..........never by the spec, age, country of origin and finish
In a live playing situation I think those things are far less significant than ,for instance, room acoustics, band chemistry, crowd response etc.
I've recently posted a self composition on members soundfiles "She'll return" which I must admit owes a lot to "w. G" as inspiration (which should be apparent once heard.)
I own three USA Strats, a Burns Marvin two USA Teles and a PRS . The guitar used on this track is one I made myself for less than £250 and uses a neck shipped from China which cost £24 (inc shipping). The amp I built from a kit for around £350 The pickups are by Ironstone (UK firm) and cost less than £50. Its probably my fave guitar to play but the amp doesn't have enough guts for gigs (5w)

We do this number in the band I currently gig with to provide a counterpoint to the high energy (we are all in our 60's and 70's ) rock and soul we play (not a Shad-u-like band). I don't really see how it can be played with verve (for want of a better word). The only part that really requires emotion is the vocal....we split it between a male and female vocalist as the range covered by Chris Isaak is demanding. It invariably gets a great reception. As to Strat tones, I never judge guitar sounds on the appearance of a guitar. I remain totally unconvinced by the arguments over body material and finishes as I'm sure its the pups that really make the difference. I think Leo would have used urethane finishes if they were available in the 50's. Also, no matter how much we might rave about the tone of a particular instrument, most of us then whack it through a load of electronic FX before it gets to our lugholes. IMHO this a great performance and with over 1/2 million hits on you tube (plus millions of others for other versions of the same song) I don't suppose Chris Isaak give's a monkey's about our opinions. Burns Marvin (post Barry Gibson) are well known for developing a hairline crack which runs out fro the upper edge of the neck poacket. my own bought new a cuppla years ago has one and I checked out a new gold edition model in a shop in Nottingham which had the same flaw but much worse.
The most obvious cause must be stress caused by the neck/body joint but I've never heard an explanation as to why this should happen (bearing in mind the wide range of guitars which use the bolt on system without problems).
I've also never heard of a split developing in the actual neck.If it plays OK I'd leave it well alone, otherwise its a job for a competent luthier.

Mike............don't think your cat would be troubled by summer bugs in my stretch of the woods right now.......but we had a dog (schnauzer) who used to be driven barmy by skin irritation each summer.

Hi Mike.......thanks for your post.......sorry I haven't responded earlier. Glad you liked the toon.....hope it didn't keep you awake Afraid "She " is just illusory ........could even be our old she cat who has often disappeared for odd periods during summer months. Regards Baz

Without doubt this is a fine piece of gear............as has been said in your other thread , a good valve amp will always beat a good solid state amp such as this,.............but in the context of a live band any such differences become marginal (imho).

Hi Matt.
You don't say if you're considering this for recording or live.
My experience of gigging Roland amps live is that they really take some beating.
Tough, well built, reliable, loads of clean headroom would just about cover it.

I'm a member of this Band (Midlands UK)....we do a number of gigs for Charitable Causes and we're currently laying down a CD. This has become our signature tune although we do not include any other Shadows' material and make no attempt to reproduce the original. I play rhythm on this track. lead guitarist plays a MiM Strat. Thought you might like to hear it, Regards Baz [/URL]

Hi Steve..........some years ago I bought a Les Paul from GAK. It was a model with a weight relieved body (i.e. hollowed out )Delivered by FEDEX it had clearly been dropped heavily on the bottom end which had punched the strap button into the body and split the back. The replacement arrived in a similarstate but it was the way the driver casually threw the return package into the back of the van which clearly illustrated how little care is taken. GAK did offer to send the second replacement in a hard case..............but when I opened the very large package they had not actually put the guitar into the case before despatch . Fortunately the bukier shape of the package had prevented this one from being dropped on its end. Regards Baz

I could be wrong but I think Delta Tone is more to do with the Pots and wiring than the pups..............either way unless someone has alredy tried such a guitar I wouldn't think it suitable for your purposes.

After a longish break from posting due to other family/related demands here's a new comp. Recorded using the line out of my newly finished hand built valve amp (details appear under projects in progress) and a Strat Deluxe, I'm afraid any echo/delay does not eminate from a H&C SE unit, just an old Zoom G2. Also used Babicz Identity acc, Squier PB and Yamaha keys..Drums and percussion from BOSS digital desk. Regards Baz I'm Taking it in my stridePS....no BT for this but if you PM me if I get 5 or more requests I'll put one together

Hi Paul... for the heads up on the Roland..............I noticed that in the current issue of Guitarist mag they suggested the 80GX as worth a listen to a jazz player who needs plenty of clean headroom as well. Regards Baz

I currently play lead/2nd guitar in a 60's/ 70's band and need an amp with plenty of clean headroom and guts that wont cause my hernia op to relapse when I have to carry it.............or cost a fortune (or even a small fortune)
Anybody tried one of these??? (or its predecessor the 80XL)
Baz
PS how about the Fender Mustang III v2.?..
