I think H-B is a Thomann brand name. Badge engineering. They even sell a Joyo ACTone with an H-B badge and cloned amps similarily. Ian

Hi Paul I love these 60's classics. You dont hear it often as you say, but when I you do it brings back great memories. Excellent track, full of all the nuances from the original. Great Paul (Robeson) voice in the backing. Cheers ian

Hi everyone new to the forum and first post, I have recently started learning the guitar, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on my first guitar so went for a Harley Benton vt first thing I did was to send it off for a setup at reloved guitars which includes fret leveling as I suspected it would have some high frets as it wasn't a expensive guitar, however they got back to me and said the frets where all level and it was the best Harley Benton he has had in his workshop regarding the level of the frets and no work was needed there so we decided the guitar would benefit from changing the tremelo block to a steel one also replace the nut with a bone one and set the action lower overall I am happy with the guitar and certainly would recommend a Harley Benton as a starter guitar or just to practice on. Thanks, jim Jim, did you actually replace the bridge or trem block? IMHO its the Achilles heel of this otherwise decent guitar for the money. Like you, the frets, as delivered, were level and dressed. Cheers Ian

Ah - now I remember why I recorded the slower Joe Brown version. Very Chet with all those whistles and bells he used to add. Great sound from the WF too but guitars dont play themselves - the playing is just superb. Cheers ian

Hi Paul Greeting from very sunny Somerset. Just caught this one. Nice and rocky version of Abba 'standard'. Not seen the film - is this the 'film' version? Whatever, its got great guitar sound and it sounds like you're having fun playing it. Excellent BT too. Cheers Ian

sixchannel, thanks for the heads up on the HB ST-62, can you remember what the finger board radius is, I find the very early 7-1/2" a tad too curved, but I like the current Fender 9-1/2" with medium Jumbo frets very nice to play, I find some of these modern fret boards i.E. 11" to flat. I would probably drop a Wilkinson Trem in as part of the upgrade Thanks Didier, for the heads up on the HB-59 HM although I was not looking for a HM specifically, A Fiesta red with Rose Wood fret board would be good, Hank played this type the longest in the earlier days. Hi Steve, totally agree, I have the Simon Neal like you have, but I wanted to look at other brands possibly cheaper as a upgrade project Thanks Pete 13.1/2" radius. Its quite flattish compared to others. My Brason has similar neck and I find them easy to play. HTH Ian

Thank's Koss, the Harley Benton is on the list to research Koss2 is possibly referring to my H-B ST62, a bargain at not much more than £130 or so ex-Thomann. I love the neck - suits me perfectly, the pickups were very nice and twangy although Bridge is a bit 'bright' sounding. The let down IMO is the dreadful threading on my vibrato arm socket. Using PTFE from Day 1. It stays in tune pretty well, even with lots of bar waggling. At that price its perfect for upgrading bits and bobs. I recently acquired a set of G&L Legacy pickups for a great price and they are now in it. HTH Ian

Isnt that the widest neck in the World? Got bored after a minute and a half - a tune to nowhere. Very clever pinch harmonics though - but SO many! Uan

I'm surprised the tele with with strat pickups sounds like a Strat. The fixed bridge especially with through body stringing makes a difference to the sound. But ho hum. It had 3 pickups set up Strat style and sounded great.

Interesting indeed. On holiday, I played with the Northumberland Shadows lads. One guy there played a Tele with Strat pickups. Guess what - it sounded just like a regular Strat. Ian

I would love to have an Alan Brason hand made strat, but left it to late as Alan not making guitars any more, Who worries about the reasale value, if youve got one of these you have a better quality guitar than a mass produced strat. strats down hold value anyway unless you've got original 50s 60s just my opinion Sad but true, Alan. I met Alan the other week to have a new nut put on my 2006 AB Strat, the one I mentioned in an earlier post. Tried very hard to get him to come out of Guitar Building Retirement as I'd love a Tele to a spec I have in mind but absolutely no dice. Had to smile when I took my Strat out of its case for AB to examine. He took hold of it and said "welcome home". As PhilC and others will probably tell you, not all '60s Strats survived the passage of time too well. Just cos its old, doesn't mean its good. A very Caveat Emptor market from what I can see. Ian

If he is the Geoffers on YT, his Mohicans uses Denis Calle & the VHBL's BT. If you get no joy contacting him, PM me on Sunday. I know Denis well and he'd be OK with me passing it on. Ian

Hi all.... i’ve just acquired an Alan Brason 1962 telecaster... absolutely beautiful.., all proper old wiring.. capacitor etc etc..what a work of art!... i dunno how to attach pics tho! You can't upload to here. Upload to a free site like imgBB.com and copy and paste the links on here. FWIW - I have an Alan Brason Strat built by him in 2006. Its basically an HBM 40th Anniversary at what would be a fraction of the price. An awesome guitar. Ian

Couple of questions, Tony - Start & finish time each day? Publishing a general program would help. E.g. - are the live 'guest bands' only at night? Solo slots on an ad hoc discretionary basis only? Solo player slots - how many tunes? BT medium? Memory stick or what? 0h! Er - thats 4 ! Cheers Ian

Hi Rob That sounds The Business! Excellent tone and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the playing at all. How much of That Sound do you attribute to the pickups themselves, and the amp and to the HCSE? Cheers ian PS - yes the WAV does sound better. i think MP3 system steals some of the depth.

Hi Ian, There were free nanoweb 10/46 attached to Guitar mag a few months ago, I bought 4 mags just for the strings. 4 sets for £20, Bargain, sound great. Cheers Alan Blimey! Missed that. What a bargain. Mind you, 10's would have been a bit light for me. I prefer the 11's. Cheers Ian

Hi Tony It certainly does help. I'm on the verge of a string change on the Brason and was reading up on them but couldnt seem to pin down any A-B reviews or tests. I'm not a speed merchant and not even a quick player (lol) so the Optiweb wouldnt be worth it, if the tone remains more or less the same. Polywebs seem pointless for my needs as I already have strings that now sound like they've been played a bit :. Nano's again it is for me, mate. Thanks for the informative input - much appreciated Ian

I've used Elixir 11's nanoweb strings for years and love the tone and durability of tone. But I cant seem to find a straight answer on the Net as to how different the new Polywebs SOUND compared to them. Anyone done a change over to Polyweb and can offer info? Cheers ian

Bizarre - If I click this link using XP I get sent straight to MY own personal folder of tunes etc that I posted - not your video. Back in a Mo - I'm going to try Win7. Ian
UPDATE - Works fine on Andrex tablet. On WIn7, works fine if I "open in new tab". Going back to XP, it worked fine IF I closed my YT account and viewed incognito. Great track!!
