Hi Viv,
Hey, you know, you are right! That's the perfect solution....much better than mine. It will be great to round off Atlantis in this way rather than by continuing to use my somewhat unsatisfactory answer. Many thanks! Can't wait to start practicing!

Hi Viv, I'm sure you are correct. All I know is I puzzled over that end section for ages before I worked out a compromise: While playing the end muted section on the neck pickup, instead of attempting to play the F on the G string I miss that note and use the time to flip the switch from neck to bridge and on the next beat start the outro by striking the G on the D string. Seems to work, but I do have to be quick off the mark and accurate with finger placement on that D string. The downside, of course, is not playing that F on the G string. I doubt anyone notices Does anyone have an alternative solution? Regards, Mike

Is it possible he simply missed the correct positional change of the switch? Much easier to flip the switch from bridge to neck position and vice versa.
Just a thought. Dare I say it, and shoot me if I'm wrong, even Hank can be fallible on rare occasions.

As I haven't seen a single "piccy" of the H&C unit (and I wonder why) I have to assume that the reference to it being a "pedal" means just that - its not a rack mounted unit - and that puts it out for me. And the TVS is just too heavy for my pocket. Ian Why? I have my Boss BCB-60 Pedalboard, with the Magicstomp placed in the centre, sitting on a shelf right beside me. I use my fingers instead of my feet to change patches or configurations. Works well if you are a 'bedroom' player. Also, the LCD display is much easier to read Mike

Thank you, and a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year to you, *** and everyone else contributing to the ongoing success of this wonderful site.
I will always cherish that memorable afternoon on the 14th June when my wife and I were welcomed so warmly, and I became the proud owner of ***'s magnificent 'Roxlut'.

Hi Mike, I have been in touch with the Author/writer of 'One Track Mind' and he is aware that it's not compatable with IOS8. He said that he is working on the update fix but it may take a little while as he is very busy. I am also informed by a friend that he can get it to work in portrait mode only but not landscape. I have tried all the tricks and re-boots but to no avail. I await the update. Best regards Roger Hi Roger, You're right, it doesn't work in landscape mode. Don't know how I missed that. However, 'One Track' v4.1.1 (October) does work in both modes under iOS 8.1. Regards, Mike

Hi All, Up until recently I have been using the APP One Track Mind to play backing tracks on my iPad Mini. Since updating the iPad operating system to IOS8 the APP no longer works and has not been updated. Does anyone know to another APP that is very similar to One Track Mind that I can use instead which is compatible with IOS8? Many thanks. Roger Hi Roger, Probably a bit late now, but thought you might like to know that 'One Track Mind' v.1.1.1 continues to work on my iPad Air which I finally got round to updating to iOS 8.1 this evening. Perhaps deleting and then reinstalling the App might get it to work? Regards, Mike

I haven't updated my iPad yet and am seriously considering never updating it again. All of my guitar processing nowadays, plus BTs, is done on my iPad and the last thing I need is an iOS update disabling my apps. I've had this iPad for a long time and buying a new one for general use and keeping this one purely as a dedicated music processor is a definite option. I don't need to update my music apps, either, because they are fine as they are now. Hi Noel, Sounds like a plan. However, I suggest you consider turning off "Automatically sync with iTunes on your computer when your iPad is plugged in to power and connected to Wi-Fi". I found out the hard way when stuff like songs and backing tracks started disappearing from my 'new' iPad as it synced with data previously synced with the content on the 'old' iPad and PC - does that make much sense? Anyway, hopefully you get the gist. You can configure iTunes through 'Devices' in the menu bar. I use a handy utility called 'Syncios' for all my file transferring activities to and from my PC. Works great and so much easier than going through iTunes which I have never considered as being particularly user friendly. I like to have control rather than have it imposed on me Regards, Mike

Hi Charlie,
Please add me to your list of those definitely intending to purchase. As you know, I am in the happy position of being one of the fortunate few who have heard the prototype 'Hall & Collins Echo' unit coupled with ***'s fabulous 'Roxlut'. Now, I'm no expert, but I consider that I do have a good musical ear and know that this combination will make, without any doubt, the perfect marriage. This just gets better and better! My 'Roxlut' and I really can't wait, but we will...somehow!
Best regards, Mike

Hi everyone, Those of you who may have been following this brief thread and 'eagerly' anticipating the appearance of a follow-up, I now have the answer....it's a resounding YES! The author of 'One Track Mind' failed to respond, but then perhaps he felt it was unnecessary as it would appear that once AirPlay is enabled on any iPad with iOS 7 all audio can be transmitted wirelessly to a compatible receiver device. After some careful research and reading of reviews I decided to purchase the AZATOM® Stealth-Air 2 Speaker with Airplay - Bluetooth - WiFi Direct. Truly this is an impressive bit of kit with a rated 80W RMS output and is now proving to be the perfect companion for my proudly owned, superlative, recently built and purchased ' Roxlut' by *** Hall! (*) *Sorry to spring this on you, but I'm afraid that unless some further positive interest is shown soon you may miss out on a genuine once-in-a-lifetime experience. The ' Roxlut' by *** Hall is a quite extraordinary achievement and exemplifies standards of build and presentation of the highest quality and professionalism. This amp is very special indeed and it's rated nominal 12W output belies it's amazing capabilities. You would not believe the tonal range possibilities that can be achieved using this amp's unique control interactions. The voice of *** Hall's Roxlut demonstrates such great heart and power of expression; it fulfils everything I could ever have wished for:

Regarding 'One Track' the answer appears to be yes, so, happily, I do have that option. I managed to locate the User Manual. Confirmation and setup appear on page 18. The latest version (4.0) of 'One Track' requires iOS 7.
Still waiting to hear from the author of 'One Track Mind'.
I've decided to go for the AZATOM Stealth Air 2A which has very good reviews and appears excellent value for money when compared with the competition.

Hi everyone,
I know a few of you are using the 'One Track' and 'One Track Mind' Apps to play your backing tracks. Can you tell me whether these apps are AirPlay enabled? It occurs to me that it would be handy to be able to move the receiver around the room as an easy way of finding an optimal position rather than being limited by a fixed speaker position. There are some nice receivers out there such as the XtremeMac Tango Air Wireless Hi-Fi AirPlay Wi-Fi 2.1 Speaker With Subwoofer or the AZATOM® Stealth-Air 2 Speaker with Airplay - Bluetooth - WiFi Direct.
The source device will be an iPad Air.
Thanks. Regards, Mike

Mike, I dont know where that comes from. Hi Mike, Sorry, perhaps I could have expressed that better. I was referring to Antivirus product support for XP continuing for a few more years. I think you will find that this applies also to many other security products out there. Can't say whether Microsoft Security Essentials or Windows Defender are included, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Microsoft have decided to pull the rug. Ah well, such punitive and short-sighted business decisions are fairly typical of this behemoth. After all, where Microsoft are concerned, it's just business. Do they really care about the interests of their paying customers? Somehow I doubt it. Regards, Mike

No longer supported by Microsoft, but still working ! I'll keep using Windows XP Pro SP3 on my main PC, I just made a full reinstallation with all existing updates (a lot of them). And I still have Windows 2000 working well on a secondary PC... Didier Hi Didier, Well said! I think far too much is being made of the dangers of not updating to 8.1 (ugh, shivers!). Seems to me that XP remains pretty secure as long as you have an active Firewall and a decent antivirus product installed - support for XP is likely to continue for another 2 or 3 years - and you scan your system regularly for any nasties that might have crept on board with a product like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Sure, all the computer magazines want you to update so they will do their very best to scare you into jumping ship. However, it's in their interests as their bread and butter depends on there being as many users as possible using Windows7 or 8/8.1. Despite what Microsoft would have you believe, Windows7 has been far more successful than 8.0/8.1 will ever be and Microsoft shot themselves in the foot with the success of XP. I have 2 laptops running Windows7. Also a desktop still running XP and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. All have Internet access. In the end, your level of security depends largely on your browsing behaviour. Keep away from suspect sites, don't open attachments unless from a trusted source and generally remain vigilant while on the Net. But then, 'twas ever thus; nothing has really changed in that respect. Many, if not all, modern anti-viral products should block any attempts to access known dubious websites. You can override, of course, but such folly will reap what you deserve. Regards, Mike

Hi Bill,
I freely admit that my intention/hope has been to try to modify the behaviour of the membership for the benefit of all concerned. Perhaps I'm being unduly presumptious and expecting too much, but I thought that if the word got around that Providers were advertising what's new in their modifiable posts we would all get into the habit of visiting that area to see what's on offer. However, the point you make is a valid one and may, in the end, be the stumbling block.
Roger kindly did as I asked, but I note that he has elected not to include the announcement about his latest backing track CD. Perhaps he feels the same way you do and perhaps that's why other Providers have not posted over the past year. Posting in this area rather than in the general forums would ensure such advertisements remain live at all times but, there again, perhaps that is not what is wanted. It was just an idea and I'm certainly not expecting any one to feel obliged to change the existing status quo. For the time being the choice remains. Perhaps, as you have suggested, both methods could be employed: a heads up announcement by the Provider in the general area plus/minus an update to their modifiable post or vice versa.
After all, the more traffic going through the Tabs, Chords and Backing Tracks (Members Only) area the greater will be the opportunities for the listed Providers to tempt us with their wares, whether they be offered without charge or otherwise.
However, the absence of a supporting post in the General area might deny the Provider from receiving any feedback, unless these are offered spontaneously. I'm thinking on my feet here, hence all the edits this morning...and afternoon! Lol!
Regards, Mike

Hi Charlie,
Just remembered something else. A few years back, when I first got my Fender Blues Junior, I discovered that elevating it 6" or so from the medium piled carpeted floor, by sitting it on a couple of plastic boxes, had the immediate effect of really opening out the sound which seemed somewhat deadened otherwise. Does this make sense? I mention this because we tried doing the same with the Mustang and it certainly helped, but not to the same degree as with the BJ. To this day we continue to play with this configuration.

Hi Mike, I have heard that best results come from using the Fuse software for the Mustang amps. Has that been tried? Regards, Charlie Hi Charlie, 'Fuse software'? Now that's something I missed. I'll do some research and see what comes up. Edit: Looked again in the manual and I see it's mentioned in the first paragraph and, indeed, elsewhere throughout the manual. Not sure how that passed us by I think we need to look into this by visiting Fender Support and d/l the FUSE manual. Thanks. Regards, Mike

Have you tried the acoustic patch on the G2 ? it sounds as though it could be what your looking for (to me that is) Also second what Charlie says about playing straight into the Mustang....... look for the nearest to a "clean" tone you can find in the software or perhaps a Vox setting (if there is one) Cheers Dick. Hi Dick, I'm afraid I was not aware that there is an acoustic patch. I have the G2.1Nu Owner's Manual on my iPad, but it doesn't list the preinstalled patches/effects. I believe my buddy has such a list. Meantime I can't find one on the Internet. We will give it a try at our next session later this week. I should perhaps say that Charlie's EFTP are installed and he tends to chose the same ones I do for each particular tune. My gut feeling is that this is probably not what he should be doing, but he loves these effects (as do I) and would be reluctant to play without. See what you've done, Charlie! Regards, Mike

Hi Mike, I am not familiar with the Mustang amps, but has the amp been tried without the G2.1Nu in line? Regards, Charlie Hi Charlie, Yes, I'm sorry, I should have confirmed that it has been tried without the G2.1Nu. Oddly enough he sounds better while playing into my old Fender Frontman 15R, which leads me to suspect that there may be an issue with the Mustang II....or maybe we are missing something obvious, which is probably the more likely explanation..lol Frontman settings: treble 3, middle 7, bass 7, reverb 3 Regards, Mike

Hi,
This may seem a strange question particularly as I suspect there may not be a simple, cover-all answer.
My playing buddy plays his Strat via a Zoom G2.1Nu into his Mustang II. However, try as he might, he cannot seem to arrive at a sound that doesn't 'muddy' his chord playing. We are both seeking a sound with greater clarity and definition without too much treble but, so far, have been unsuccessful. You would think some judicious tweaking of the tone controls on the amp with appropriate Pup and pot selections on his Strat is all that's needed, but he remains unhappy and continues to fiddle.
Please, can anyone with experience using this amp suggest appropriate initial settings? Currently he finds the British 60s Preset with conservative use of Bass and Treble is closest to what we both want but, still, there persists this muddiness to the sound. Perhaps we are expecting too much. I play lead into a Fender Blues Junior and it sounds great in comparison when I turn the volume down on my American Deluxe with its Samarium Cobalt Noisless pups while helping him practice rhythm backing phrases.
Cheers! Mike

Hi Roger,
Perfect! And thanks for being so patient with me on this one, but I really do feel that all those who have yet to use their 'Provider Post' have been missing a trick. Seems to me to be a good way of keeping everyone informed about what's on offer. And, please do remember that your post can be edited/updated at any time in the future.
Now that you've taken the lead on this one, hopefully others will soon follow.

Hi Roger, I see you have posted. Actually I was hoping you would post at the foot of this thread (The Provider List, you being one of the Providers) at: charliehall.proboards.com/thread/14524/provider-listThe Provider List is in fact just the first post, owned by me, in the thread and each REPLY to this initial post is owned by a Provider who appears in the main Provider List. If you had posted a Reply under Oswald's post, then that 'Reply' would continue to serve as your unique and modifiable Provider Post, as I have tried to explain. Clearly there has been some confusion and I can see now that this may be one reason as to why others have been deterred from posting. If this is indeed the case then I can only apologise. As you know, any response/reply in any thread on these forums at CH&Fs can only be modified by the poster or a moderator. The proposed restriction of One Modifiable/Editable Post per Provider is a way of ensuring that this particular 'thread' doesn't become cluttered with responses from the rest of the membership. Being able to modify your posted reply at any time is a way of allowing you to update your 'advertisement' as and when it becomes appropriate. I can edit the Provider List since I'm the one who created this initial post in the thread. However, I cannot alter/edit any Provider posts that appear under Provider Posts Follow Below. Each reply belongs to that Provider and only he/she can edit their post whenever they so wish. Assuming, after having waded through all this, you are still prepared to have another go I would suggest you place a title in bold and in a larger font at the head of your post which matches your entry in the PROVIDER LIST at the head of the thread. In your case, it would be: Roger Allcock's 'Vintage Sounds'Oswald hasn't done so, as yet, but perhaps he will after reading this update. Kind regards, Mike

I've just finished recording my 12th backing track CD entitled "Backin' Our Yesterdays". As the title suggests, it includes older numbers dating from the late '50s up to the early '70s and for anyone interested you can see the track listing and listen to soundclips on my webpage :- www.vintage-sounds.co.uk/cds/Tab is available for this CD (and the previous albums) and can be provided for single tracks if desired. Hi Roger, Please, can I invite you to post this announcement in the Backing Track and Tablature Providers (Members Only) area as well using your Provider Posting facility, as described here: charliehall.proboards.com/thread/14519/important-readcharliehall.proboards.com/thread/14524/provider-listSince the creation of this sub-board a year ago it does seem to have attracted some interest. However, I remain disappointed that to date only one Provider has made use of his entitlement to create a modifiable Provider Post which advertises what he/she has to offer the community. As explained, this unique post can be updated by its creator, the Provider, at any time. This also ensures that your announcements will never get lost as folk stop replying to your thread in the main forums. Perhaps if more Providers who appear on the main list were to do so it would generate greater interest and encourage revisits to this area as folk seek out what's new.Thanks. Kind regards, Mike

Hi Maurice,
For some time now I have been using 'GHS Gorgomyte Fret & Fingerboard Cloth' on Rosewood and lacquered Maple fretboards and it really does a great job. It's non abrasive and after cleaning the Rosewood board I treat it with Dunlop 65 Lemon oil. The Gorgomyte treatment is all that's needed on a Maple board - polishes up a treat, as do the frets. Google 'Gorgomyte' and you will find lots of favourable reviews and demos. It may seem a little expensive but each cloth lasts a long time as you only need to cut and use a two inch square each cleaning session.
For once a product really does live up to the hype.
Regards,
Mike

If you don't mind paying a little bit extra, and all you're looking for is an Amp sim, I can recommend Bias from Positive Grid. It come with some good Vox types, but you can customise them until your heart's content. Well worth the money, I created a AC15, AC30 and Matchless type for my early/late Shadows sounds. Tim. Hi Tim, Your comments have intrigued me so have taken the plunge and installed the App. Now what? Any tips about which amp to choose and the settings you have discovered provide the desired sound? Can you output from the iPad to an external physical amp? Can a BT be played on the iPad while playing lead through BIAS? Sorry, this is all a bit new to me....yet another learning curve to negotiate Regards, Mike
