Hi Mike, How does the caline pedal react when the gain is increased ? Is it noisy ? If I had to remove Bass I would increase the gain to make the mids more prominent instead of increasing the mids as I think mids sound nasal when increased. The chart looks like an upside down smile which makes me think it would be okay for say Gonzales or Shadoogie. Have you made any soundfiles ? best regards gary

I noticed the echo pattern on mode 5 on the 301 is very similar to echomatic 1 settings, I guess this was used on the 89 Album when they re-recorded all their hits again. regards gary

Sounds like a battered old acoustic with nylon strings into a fender amp, compliments his voice too.I never met a person who didnt like Willie Nelson, A true legend.

If I remember correctly on this, Jet had an endorsement with another guitar brand at the time and it took a lot of persuading to eventually let him use the fender bass on stage with Hank for this appearance.

I agree Tony, "Apache to Wonderful Land" is their golden era, although I think Guitar Tango was jets final track with them. regards gary

I wonder what enhancements were made on the original to Hanks sound ? I dont think any AC30 would deliver that tone to the true extent of the recording,It also sounds in the distance like reverb too. That guitar sound in particular reminds me of "my resistance is low",as in hard to achieve without adding mids later. regards gary

Its a bit late in the day moaning about wonderful land... LOL, The song itself is a sample taken from Blind Alley by The Emotions 1972...but I reckon she paid them for it. gary

Hi Dave,Apart from (maybe) the overdub,Im surprised you believe the middle pickup was used on the studio version.A few years ago I spent a few days trying this tune with 2 Q2s, patch 03, and Abbey road, (one of the levels reduced to make the reverb about 50% wet, also making the echo pattern hard to distinguish/hear. best regards gary

Hi Dave,I think its a great sound, Should the melody be played on the bridge as in studio version ? as this leans towards the crackerjack version, depending on what the goal here is ! regards gary

...maybe he should now be called Ledge for safety reasons or Mattress or Whoops! or Slips/Tumble/Crash. Why on earth was he called Edge in the first place? Hi Jay, Bono nicknamed him The Edge because he had a pointy head,(when he had hair) regards gary

The way I see is that some folks have a genuine interest in getting as close as possible to the original recordings, some folk dont really care, and some folk dont even play, either way its all friendly banter. regards gary

There are of course some who will never hear the difference. One chap claimed he couldn't tell it apart from the Zoom G3 but I immediately had my doubts about his hearing as he had already told me that he was changing the pickups on his PRS guitar for Kinmans as he thought they were too bassy. I have the same PRS guitar and find the pickups great, I can get a decent Shads sound on it using the slit coil knob, so it goes to show people hear stuff differently. Hi Dave, I find that people make certain remarks about equipment because they bought something else instead, people that have a good ear for music will always get better results with different gear, regards gary

A little info about Hanks Binson EC3 comes from the last/present owner taken from a for sale ad last year--------""I used to run the shadows fan site and one day at nomis studios where I was attending the shads rehersals for a tour I was asked to take this unit for service to marcaris. some six weeks later I picked it up and hank said that he had changed echo units and to keep it , was used on tour and on the recording of argentina plus many more. your chance to own a piece of shads history in full working order and excellent condition will ship world wide if required but would prefer collection in person many shads fans know I have this as I also had the babybinson of hanks at one time"". Hi again,From what i recall,Change of Address is mostly the black strat (11-50)strings +(10-52 for live stuff) with FS1 in the bridge into a RE 201 into a 70s AC30 with silverback speakers, from what i heard the 301 first made its debut on "Equinoxe" from that album. The black strat was also used on some recordings with the boogies and as a spare for live stuff up until 84,Hank told me he never had FS1s in the red 58 strat although I reckon he used them on "Simply Shadows",,maybe a different strat perhaps Theres some live stuff on youtube from the early 80s with (58 strat/301/AC30)and the slightly metallic sound is a result of removing Bass and adding Treble on the 301,this was also helped by the slight boost of a morley VBO/slightly overdriven ac30. Im sure theres lots of info about this era if anyone can add to it. beat regards gary
