Hi Tony, Thanks for your kind comments, my live sound is very rounded and thick, in fact a great sound, the recording sound was the issue, completely different from the in house sound, I changed the microphone and a vast improvement. I was using an AC30CC2x 70s USA Fender Stratocaster and a Magicstomp EFTP. I have some recordings with the better Mic on here but its backtracking the thread, its not worth the trouble lol. cheers Peter

I saw him on Top Gear too and to be honest I thought he was a far out man but after seeing him on top gear he came across as an intelligent and sound minded man for sure, he just loves his music style, so needs to look the part. cheers Peter

Hi Steve, well done, you had some bottle to even go on a show like that, they have a way of making you look anything but what you are, a very good guitar player and don't let them take that away from you, keep playing the music. cheers Peter Leyland

Hi Folks, wow! In over 40 years of guitar playing, I have never heard of a Trem spring nor have I seen one, the only springs I have seen are the 3 or 5 springs in the back to adjust trem tension, I have a USA 79 Fender Strat and a replica Signature Marvin strat ( Fender Parts ) can't see a trem spring :-). cheers Peter

Hi there, I have a simple policy for the well known auction site when it come to guitars, ( I don't buy guitars of the well known auction site ) that way i am safe forever. there is of course exceptions were you know someone personally who is selling there goods on the well known auction site, that is different because you know what is being sold. I would imagine that if you bought from an the well known auction site shop there would be some insurance guarantee in place for come back etc. But at the end of the day as far as guitars are concerned i would certainly pay the extra and make sure its genuin than the than risk a bargain at all expense cheers Peter

Hi , Keep it simple, the more gadjets the more you have to set right, certainly for early shads instros Hank only had guitar, amplifier, echo, but a Meazzi.
i use a USA strat, vox ac30, Magicstomp, also an Boss Me5 effects processor for recording just to make use only of the EQ setting and a tad of compression but not too much. My AC30 is not set to the top boost, settings as looking from the front: left to right EQ bass 9 0 clock and treble 6 o clock, master volume full on then imput volume to taste, I don't use thetop boost volume at all. vox is a CC2x blue alnico. the amplifier is miked up for recording and I don't use computer software altho it has its benifits no doub't I have found that if too much compression is used you loos the bite of the plectrum hbitting the strings and somehow doesn't sound too convincing, Hanks sound was and still is very, shall we say twangy/biting with very little compression if any at all. Without wanting to promote my own posts, have a listen to my Gonzales and Find me a golden street they are fairly close to be honest but never perfect. cheers Peter

Hi Chris, thanks, the clipping was due to the Boom mic ( directional ) in front of the Ac30 and the volume up to high for the mic we should have used a unidine mic to pic up all the guitar and backing track. the backing track was edited on later as the mic didn't pick up the bt sound. We did about 10 shads numbers but some will have to be re recorded including the Blues jam. I will post up one more, a Shads number for comparison with sound. cheers Peter

Hi Joachim, Yes, it was not meant to be too different, its the Iphone i'm afraid, it makes the sound overly bright to much top end. the actual sound as I have pointed out before is much more rounded, more middle and less tinny. i used a 78 strat going through a Magic stomp EFTP then into a Boss ME5 to make use of its EQ and compressor as you would with the Boss CS3, then into a VOX AC30 CC2X. thanks for your comments. Peter

Hi Garry, thanks for the praise :-) with regard to recording direct to the computer I have allways been wary of it. the reason being is that the tone from the speakers in the amplifier play an important part in creating the sound, the sweet spot if you like but going Di'd auxillery is making use of the internal electronics if you see what I mean. I am more than aware of the rewards of the likes of mixcraft and others and would certainly like to experiment. Over the years I have been privaledge to sit in a studio environment both as a session guitarist and with bands I have played with and on every ocasion I have been miked up from the amplifier to get the best sound possible certainly when your producing a CD. The mic I have used for years for micing up has been the trusty old Shure SM57. My Colleague now passed away (Norman Barrat) used the likes of Cuebase software etc and could cut into the track recorded at any point and rectify errors etc and add further effect but building upon the sound originally created. cheers Peter
