On the q2 i used to use i think 63. Its a binson patch, 3rd head i think, instead of using tremolo.

Hi George
Thats right i have the IVR (4 head) ive had it since oct 03 and its only on its second tape.
Charlie has done fantastic work with eftp. I have a MS and a quad gt still, i also had a rfx. But there is something missing from the digi units that is there instantly with the tape echoes which is what lead Spike and co on to develop the TVS. As for the price the units are hand built and the components are expensive i heard someone mention on one of the sites that the heads where in the region off £100 but i may be wrong. But for me it was worth every penney. Im after a q2 to replace the gt as its rather old and the q2 is superior in my opinion.

Hi Keith
Did you receive your echomatic today?
For apache type echoes you will probably want to use heads 1- 4 - 6 with the fx control fully clockwise with no heads selected for regen for apache, the stranger etc... For things like FC, blue star where there is feedback you will probably want to use head 6 for regen motor speed will probably be best around the 12 O'Clock position. Sorry i can be more accurate for you i have the IVR and have only tried the VIR once before a long while ago. I believe David Martin and Alain both have the IVR model so they should be able to go on a bit more detail if needed.
Hope Ive given you a good starting point so you can enjoy using it out the box.

Hi Kieth
Congratulations! For the Echomatic 2 you want playback from heads 1-2-3-4 and regen from head 4 set the motor about 1 o'clock but this might vary slightly from machine to machine, fx123 this sets heads 1,2 & 3's volume relative to head 4 and i leave this around 2o'clock. Regen to taste but i normally have it so it repeats back about 7-8 times. Sorry its short but I'm at work and writing on my mobile lol. Pm me if you wish.

They are great guitars, the pups that come as stock are said to be somewhere in between paf Gibson pups and filtertrons. The TV Jones pups that have been mentioned are awsome available in various mounts and a used in a few models of Gretsch and used by none other the the legend Brian Setzer. Heres a 5120 that was modded by someone off the gretsch guitar pages: hem.passagen.se/goba666/Gretsch%205120%20-%20total%20makeover.htmScott

When i first started playing this one i automatically used the middle pickup. The same with The Stranger i always switch to the middle pickup after the main verse and back to te bridge pickup for the main melody. But ive seen a lot of players using only the bridge pickup for both these songs iirc theres a part in The Stranger where you can hear the pickup selction change, i may be wrong and have to check to be sure.

Middle pick up, In the early days Hank used the other pick-ups a lot more than he does now.

Having thought about it a bit more i cant decide lol. Like Peter i like ''Baby please don't go!'' but also anything by Cliff Gallup and Grady Martin (session player) who played on a lot of the Rock n Roll Trio's stuff. So many to choose from but my heart is with the great rockabilly, rock n roll stuff. My favorite to play is Hallelujah I Love Her So (the late great Eddie Cochran's version).

Hi kipper
I have had one for just over a year its not to bad does come in handy, my girlfriend got me one when our daughter was born.
I normally leave it on the compter desk and either use headphones or just plug it in to a small set of computer speakers (if its not tooo late) via the magic stomp. Ideal for quiet practice noodlings or when working out a new song. Ive seen videos of people on youtube using it with an amp for overdrive too not that ive tried it. As Charlie has said no good for recording.

Thank you very much. I totally agree with you and this does nothing for me. It looks a well made machine, thats the problem sometimes i guess, same of faults (by todays standards) with the older units is what makes them musically pleasing.

I think that people have been spoiled by your programs Charlie. When you have a q2, ms etc etc you have all the various echo units in one box so when people look at a tape echo instead of a digital one they expect to have the same range of echoes and to have the echoes as exact (timings) as the digital units. Which was distracting for me when i first got my ESE lol. Its not 100% for every unit that Hank ever used but its closer enough for a 4 head unit and im not that fussed anyway Scott

Hi Guys
Ever since I saw the video a few years ago I started to play FBI the same way. Makes hell of a difference I think.
