Many thanks Ian.
String wise I'm currently using Exilir 12 - 52's on this guitar. I'm also drawn to the FV-HMS for the fuller sound , but I keep seeing the Hank Marvin 'Shadows' logo which makes me think I should go for the Impersonator 54's, but I must admit I do like his modern tone.

I intend on buying a set of Kinman pickups for my Japanese 'Hank Marvin' Fender.
I can't make my mind up on the Hank Marvin Modern set or the Hank Marvin Shadows set. Can anyone who owns either or both give me any advice on which set would give me a good general 60's and modern tone. Having listened to philmcg's sound files who uses both, his sound is equally good using either set which adds to my confusion as to which set to fork out £219 for.

Most of my music equipment comes from Andertons, they provide a fantastic service, only critism is their limited car park.

I now have all my UB Hank Backing tracks on my hard drive and have previously used Windows Media Player to play them. Just wondering if anyone can recommend a dedicated Windows backing track player where I could load say 10 tracks and have them play back in order, possibly with a pause between tracks.
Thanks, Glen

I use the H&C mainly for recording and because of noise problems I can't use a normal guitar amplifier. In a sudden rush of blood to the head I used some of the kids inheritance and bought a Line 6 Helix which is supposed to have some very good Amplifier simulations including the AC15/AC30, plus I liked the look of it !!
If I use the H&C as a Insert (send/return) before the Amp in the chain, I get a slight distortion and have to turn the AC15 gain down to something like 1. If I put the H&C after the amp the distortion is less but am I losing some of the echo effects by doing this ? I currently plug my guitar into the H&C with the output going into the Helix guitar input, I still get slight distortion if I up the amplifier gain to 2 or 2.5.
Before I go to the Line 6 support forum somebody is bound to ask me if the H&C has a slightly amplified output, as I know absolutely zero about electronics I don't have clue what kind of signal comes out of the H&C - any advice please.

Hi Charlie
Thanks for the new patch list, can you tell me if Jet Harris's 'Diamonds' should have an echo as its not mentioned on the list.
Thanks, Glen

Bill
Thanks for the links - for some reason I can't get the second one '244' to load, it keeps saying I don't have permission to access the post, even though I am logged in, strange.
Charlie
Many thanks for the settings that's exactly what I was looking for :-) I found a link to the old post you supplied in another thread but like 244 above it says I don't have permission to access it, anyway the above is what I was looking for, thanks again.

Hi
I have been using a POD X3 for AC15/30 amp simulation as I don't have an amplifier, unfortunately the USB connection keeps cutting out my audio card, its a known problem apparently with some computer setups. Anyway the reason for this post, since buying the Hall & Collins echo unit I have decided to blow the dust off my Vox Tonelab LE purely for the AC15/30 Amp simulation as in the past it had a good reputation for this feature.
I have lost all my old settings and can't find that long post some years ago when Charlie tested the ST (I think) and gave a few suggested settings. I don't intend on having lots of different settings for different songs, just one or two good general ones. Can anyone offer any decent settings for use with the Hall & Collins unit please.
Many thanks, Glen

Many thanks John, there's obviously some very clever 'magic' added to this unit, the results are superb to my ears.

This is more a question for Charlie
I was listening to Steve's great video on comparing the sound of the H&CU with echo off and on. I never really understood Wow and flutter, but apart from the fantastic echo's, what else has been added to the main Shadows sound patches i.e. any EQ or reverb etc.

Hi Glen I use a wireless remote controlled extension lead for my effect pedals, individual sockets can be switch individually to suit without any need to crawl under desks! Regards Gary Never heard of one of those, thanks for the info, I'll Google it. Glen

I have to agree with Chris (grip), I wish it had an on/off switch on the unit itself, my only power point in my music room is under the computer desk so I have to get on my hands and knees each time to use it, at my age that's not so easy these days ;-)

Hi Nev You can find the settings and manual on the Echotapper web site. The settings are already programmed in, see here for a list of settings to a song www.echotapper.nl/etap2/echo.php Glen

Hi Brian Thanks for the info, looks interesting. I'm currently using forScore which is ok but you have to use the metronome feature to turn the pages automatically. One problem I can see with Headturn is if I'm playing any Status Quo songs, my head is nodding all the time to the beat Glen

Ian, Alan Thanks for your help So, if a Bass knob is turned so the guitar sounds treble'y its off and if a Treble knob is turned so it sounds Bass'y then it is also off, have I got this right. With this apparent reversing as Line 6 suggests you may need to turn it fully clockwise to turn the effect off, this is where I'm getting confused. Glen

Hi I know this is a strange question, but I was listening to one of the videos on the TVS website relating to Hanks sound. At one point Paul Rossiter said to turn the Amp tone controls off. When is an amp control considered Off ? I also remember Charlie once advising me to turn the Bass and Treble off while experimenting with the different amp controls, but I was too embarrassed to admit I didn't know which way was Off !! I confess I don't own an amp but use a Line Pod X3 for the AC-15 / 30 emulation so don't know whether to turn the knobs clockwise or anticlockwise or midway. Part of the Line 6 instructions for the AC-30 Top Boost states and I quote " We also turned the tone controls around, since original Top Boost amps had the bass and treble turned all the way down when the knob was all the way up." What the Heck does that mean Glen

Hi Tony / Neil Yes, I was aware of the preset save feature, but I thought I read that the tweaked settings could not be saved with a song without creating another preset i.e. Apache - Charlie1, Atlantis - Charlie2 etc, But within Cubase it saves and remembers your 'tweaked' settings without the need to create another preset. So now I only have one preset called 'Charlies Settings' which I load for all songs then tweak as necessary. The daft thing is I've had this plugin for quite some time and never used it, I didn't realise how useful it was until you very kindly pointed me in the right direction Neil - much appreciated Regards Glen

Hi Neil
I found JB Broadcast in one of my archived folders, but have never used it. Following your advise I used Charlies settings as a datum and applied to this to various UB Hank backing tracks. This is probably the wrong 'technical' term but I didn't realise how 'dull' the backings were until I switched on the JB Broadcast. Suddenly the various instruments stand out very clearly, the rhythm guitar, hi-hats seem to become crystal clear.
I did notice I had to vary the threshold levels to keep the 3db limit. I understand the plugin doesn't retain its settings when a song is saved, so do you have to create a preset for each song ?

John . That rings a bell !, I think thats what Charlie said, they can be a bit Bass'y. I'll play around with the EQ and try reducing the bass a bit - thanks for your help. Neil I normally check this forum out once or twice a day but totally missed that thread - thanks for pointing it out. Must go I've got some reading to do. Thanks again guys Glen

Hi
I an trying to record some Shads tunes into Cubase using the UB Hank backing track series. I remember some time ago Charlie telling me the UB Hank tracks need a little attention when being recorded i.e. EQ, Reverb etc, the trouble is I can't remember what he said.
Can anyone offer any advice when recording with UB Hank tracks, is it best to leave the backing track alone and just apply EQ etc, to the solo part, or would the backing track also benefit from a little 'tweaking'.

Hi
Can anyone point me to a sound files recorded using the Casting A Shadow Apache backing track. I'm trying to find out how the end bit should go, I bought Steve Gibb's tab, but its the same ending as the UB Hank version of Apache.

Hi Len, Rosemary
Many thanks for your help with this annoying problem, but I think I have just fixed it.
Duncan was on the right track with Compatability settings, only in IE9 its not in the Tools menu, its a box next to the URL address window at the top. Only problem when I go onto the 4Shared site it did not appear so I couldn't change the compatability settings. I made it appear by going to Tools - Safety - Active X Filtering and turning this ON. The compatability option then appears at every web page, I clicked the compatability box for 4Shared now everything is working normally as in IE8.
