Hi Peter I used Audacity to transfer all my LPs to CD. Simply plugged the headphone socket on stereo to the Line-In on the PC, started Audacity and made sure that the input was set to Line-In. It took a bit of playing with the volume control on the stereo and the recording level in Audacity before I got the right balance but once I had I used the same settings for all our LPs. Pressed the record button in Audacity and started the LP. When the recording was finished I used a setting in Audacity on the Effects menu (Click Removal) and let it do its thing. If there was only one or 2 tracks with clicks, pops etc I just selected them and then ran the effect. i can rember to trying to record from record player to reel to reel tape some one always seemed to drop something at the wrong time and you had to start again Worse than that was trying to record Top of The Pops or another program at the time and someone starts coughing. No chance of a retake then.

...and you can't beat those clicks and scratches . I even managed to put some on reel to reel tapes that I had of the early Shads albums. I'd spend so much time starting and stopping them to try to learn the tracks I knackered my tape recorder. Each time I stopped the tape the erase head would hit the tape and take 1/2 a second out of the track

Ah, John Leyton and "Johnny Remember Me". I was at scout camp in Somerset when that was riding high in the charts and just couldn't get it out of my head. It's still one of my favorites from the 60s. Am I right in thinking it came from a soap called "Compact"?

Hi Ed
I also have a Vintage V6 (Firenza Red, nearest they do to Fiesta) and I'm very pleased with it. I previously had a Squier Standard Strat and I think the V6 is much better. One bonus is the push in trem arm, stays where you put it.

Hi Ian
I've got a JHS Vintage Reissued V6 (in Firenza red). Changed from a Squier Standard Strat and wouldn't change back again.
Used with a Zoom G2 and Charlies patches I think that the tone is great. It has a tone control for the bridge pick up and a Wilkinson trem with a push in arm which stays in place and hardly ever goes out of tune (which is some achievement considering the temperatures we get here).

Has anyone had any experience of the AKG WMS40 Mini Wireless Instrument Set. They seem to have good write ups on the Amazon UK site. I'll only be using it at home.
Also does anyone know what the difference is between the ISM 1, ISM 2 and ISM 3 versions are. I've put the specs up side by side but can't see any difference. (Sorted)
Thanks

Hi There is no problem obtaining a UK to Oz plug adaptor. We bought ours at the airport when we were over in January but I should think that any travel accessory shop should have them, I'm pretty sure I saw them in Sydney. The only problem with the adaptor is the Ozzie end is inserted with two fairly flimsy pins so the UK plug doesn't want to be too heavy.

Hi Ted
I also hail from Dorset but retired out to the warmer climes of Cyprus just over 5 years ago. It was around this time that I found Charlie's site and rekindled my interest in trying to sound like Hank (some hope!!) after a break of about 40+ years.
It looks as though you're sorted with the guitar and amp but would suggest that if you decide to buy an "echo box" go for something reasonably cheap (Zoom G2 range is good) as Charlie will (hopefully) being bring out his own box later this year.
Being a bedroom player I couldn't justify buying a genuine Strat so I bought a Vintage Reissued V6 Strat copy which I'm very happy with and which also has Wilkinson hardware so no problems with floppy trem arms. My amp is a Fender Mustang 1 and I've got a Zoom G2 with Charlie's patches. I'd never dream of playing in public but I have put together a CD which a few privileged ;D ;D ;D friends and relatives have. (It must have taken me at least 20 takes for each track to get them sounding anywhere near decent).
Which part of Dorset are you, we used to live between Poole and Wimborne on Canford Heath?

Sod's law isn't it. We're in Oz at the moment and get to Sydney on Cliff's last night there. Guess where we are at the moment! Yes Perth. Haven't seen Hank wondering around yet.

Typical, the day we arrive in Sydney, 12th Feb, there are only 17 tickets left and all at the back.

Hi both
Good luck with your quest, I wonder if there are any Shads followers here in Cyprus?
(By the way you may want to change the @ sign in your email addresses to AT otherwise you may get more responses than you want.)

Agree with Chris, value for money you can't beat the G2. Why pay hundreds of pounds for an alternative unit when Charlie's own unit could be available by the end of the year? I know some members decry the G2 but I think there are more of us who are happy with it. Maybe we're "bedroom" players while the detractors are "pros".

Hi Ian
It is possible for members to add their location in their profile, as you can see I'm located in Cyprus (haven't found any Shads fans here yet).

Hi Bo
I tend to play the last muted note on the open 3rd string, this just gives me time to switch pickups using my little finger to flick the switch.

Hi Charlie
Don't know if it's just me but the "Last Post" dates in the Sub Boards of "Technical Section" are showing as May 2009 even though if I access the sections they have the correct dates showing.

Hi Charlie, great sound but..... I would prefer to hear your demos without any post processing to the recordings, in other words I'd prefer to hear how the unit sounds in a live situation.

Hi Pete
I think Charlie charges £25 sterling for the patches for your unit. You can either wait for him to pick your query up or email him at charliehallATntlworld.com (replace the AT with @). He emails the patches so there shouldn't be any charge for postage etc.

Hi Martin
You're obviously a Fender fan so what about the Mustang 1, you can program it from your PC.

Hi Charlie I would definately be interested in a unit depending on the price (I'm only a bedroom player). I would be willing to be an official Cyprus tester for you .

Hi Phil
I'm in exactly the same position as you, I've had 'the elbow' for about 8 weeks now and all I can put it down to is playing the guitar. I notised that it started around the time that I started re-learning FBI (after about 40 years) specifically the muted sections.
I use Voltarol gel 4 times a day and the condition has improved alot. As I'm in the UK for 5 weeks I have an enforced rest so I'll see what happens when I get back home. I believe that it is a condition that mainly repairs itself but can take up to 2 years.
