Tricky one And it also depends on wether they are genuine EFTP. Quite so. Way back in time I bought my Q2EFTP from said auction site, "genuine, with all original paperwork" and all that B----it. Some yrs later I discovered that it was a total Fake!! Mr. Gullible :-(

Yes Ian this is what I want to do, put this Tune Reef break backing track onto my memory stick so I can then hopefully play with it through our PA at a gig, but I can not see me getting this backing track on my stick as I have never done this before, but now I need to learn how to many thanks for your reply. Once you have your BT on your PC, plug the memory stick in a USB socket. Then If you go to 'my computer' on your PC you will see it shown as a Drive, called, say,Sandisk, or whatever make it is. Now you know it's there, go back to your BT, right-click on it and choose the 'copy' option. Go back to your memory stick, as shown above, click on it and it will open - and of course will be empty. Simply right-click in the empty space and choose 'paste' and after a few seconds it will copy over. Ian

Sorry, I should have said. Once you have DLd the BT from "wherever", plug your memory stick into a USB socket and simply copy and paste it from your PC into it. I do it all the time for Gig PA's. Ian

The backing Track I am looking for is called (REEF BREAK ) Its a instrumental tune originally played by a Australian instrumental Group, also a group called The Ryders covered it Can you help in anyway please. My Oz mate, Martin Cilia has it on his "Flight Of The Surf Guitar Backing Tracks” album. Available via his website on CD or through itunes or spotify and, I think CDBaby. Here endeth blatant advert!! Hi Peter, No I dont. The Spreadsheet was made out of Necessity. I created the conversion / comparison sheet because I was going to Clubs that didnt have my echo unit in the backline so needed to know which echo pattern ,of their one, to use instead. Its not perfect and know doubt there are errors but it worked, more or less. I never saw an echo sheet for a straight Quad so never added it. My only thought is that you take some time to go through the Patches, one by one, writing down what the Display says for them - and then comparing the Descriptions to the Spreadsheet. It won't be spot on but heck often I dont use the recommended Echo for some Shads numbers - and on-one has died. lol! You should get close enough, certainly on the specialist and important ones. Ian

Hi again so how would I know what Echo to use on the Quad two, for a certain Shadows Tunes. Also am I right in saying that there are different repeat echo times for different Shadows Tunes. I have an Excel speadsheet I created comparing my Q2 EFTP numbers to other echo units. I had to create it when Club gigging and having to use 'resident' backlines that were not Q2 and gives examples of Shadows tunes. If it's helpful,PM me. Ian

Some do, most don't. On my Q2 (original patches, not the updated ones - never saw the need) here are some examples of what you might see - 0-00 EMTC 1 1 (used for Apache) 0-10 EMTC 2 1 (general light Meazzi echo used for many tunes) 0-13 EMTC 2 4 WONDERFUL LAND (specific to WL) 0-15 EMTC 2 6. (fat echo for TFYL etc) 0-18 FLINGEL BUNT. (specific echo for FB) My notes in brackets. I have no echoes in Bank1, probably because its not got the extra, updated patches. If you're not seeing displays like these, likely it's not EFTP but my guess is that it is. HTH Ian

Hi I have just purchased a Quad 2 I have no manual & no clue how to use this unit. The unit comes on then I am stuck, I am trying to get the Shadows EFTP settings up on the Display can you please help. Quad2's,as sold, did not have EFTP in them. EFTP were/was a set of patches, created by our Charlie Hall, which you could purchase. They are AFAIK no longer available. A FREE Manual for Alesis Q2 is available from www.manualslib.comHTH Ian

Absolutely so. The Ceramics did scrub up well against the Alnicos. FWIW, up to buying some Kinnan FV-HMS's for my Strat , ALL my guitars had been Ceramic pupped - and nobody died. But for the OD I came to the conclusion that it "mattered not a jot" as the sound was spoiled for an 'ear test' anyway. But 'Clean' the Alnicos WERE smoother, the Ceramics just having that bit of an 'edge', so maybe 'cleaner' sounding.

It didnt. Without even looking, it was easy to tell them apart. And why does it matter a jot anyway if you then run EITHER through OD?

Thanks Paul. I've set the VT60 up as AC30TB with the Top Boost = Presence set quite high but the Mids and Bass at Neutral. Cheers Ian

Thanks Steve and Paul. Would that be a standard AC30 or a TB version please? As I recall, the Settings on my VT60 are quite different for the two. I USED to have them written down but over time they have - er - "disappeared". lol Currently using AC30 amp model and guitar with FV-HMS pickups, the sound seems quite "muddy" unless I really crank up the Treble. And on the TB setting, its way too Treble, so I drop that down and adding Mids (for Hanks modern Kinman sound) makes it muddy again. Sob! Cheers ian

Now and again there is a peek into Hank's studio (like in the trailer for his last album) and he 'appears' to be using Vox amps, judging by their constant appearance in the background. Does anyone know what they are? Original 1960's Vox or JMI repros etc or what, and are they straight AC30's or TB's? Reason is that I've just got my early model VT60 out of retirement and need to set it up again. Any info greatly appreciated. Ian

I think it all depends on what you mean by 'the same'. AFAIK - JMI made repro's of the 1960’s Denney designed Vox amps using the original circuitry and they look the same. Couldnt call them 'VOX' as Korg owned the name but the internal gubbins was old 'VOX' as I think you mean. Korg put out 'Vox' branded amps (cos they own the rights to use the name) but the internals AFAIK are anything but original circuitry. However, I have a Korg 'Vox' and I think it's pretty good unless you are a stickler for total tonal accuracy, and have the bank account to match.

Hi Alan JMI = "Vox". Or was. Lol. Jennings Musical Industries created the "Vox" brand name. JMI, as such, went bust in 1968 although JEI (Jennings Elctronic Industries) still made amps. The "JMI" trademark was bought in 1997 by HiWatt who wanted to make reproductions of the Jennings/Dick Denney designs but couldn't call them "Vox" as Korg owns that name and puts out amps with that brand name on. Simples?;-)

Hi All this might sound strange coming from one who has been at it a bit but - I have two Echo units, a vintage Q2EFTP and an even vintager Zoom2000EFTP, both of which are great units IMHO but are beginning to become unreliable - the Q2 has developed a "distortion" in the signal and I cant seem to get to the bottom of it and the Z2000 has an intermittent power problem.
SO - I am thinking of a reliable modern replacement at the "budget" end of our available units as sadly the H&C and TVS are way out of reach. Of the others of which I have no knowledge apart from the alphabety-spaghetty names they give them U2, G3 etc etc, what does the Team think gives great echo sounds for not only Shads work but generally and are Value For Money.
We are away for a few days so replies might be delayed but all info would be greatly appreciated and IF there are any For Sale you could always PM me with details. (Charlie - if you think this should be posted in the Wanted section - please move. Thanks) Cheers ian

all sorted now , all I need to do now is nail it Colin As Shakespeare wrote in his Scottish play about cigars -Ay, there's the rub!" Quite easy to mug through but the devil is in the detail. I've never 'quite' managed it. Lol Ian

I quite understand. Thats how I got my Yammy APX3 some years ago. It was in a second hand shop (the guitar was second hand, not the shop, although - -) with only 5 strings on it. "It doesn't work" he said and I bought it therefore as a knockabout acoustic for not a lot of cash. New strings made it sound great and when I opened the battery compartment to check on condition of the old PP3,there wasn't one in it. So in went a new one and guess what? - it worked perfectly. Serendipity. Ian

Quite apart from the tone, which has varied and evolved with time, and with justification...we all evolve as musicians....Hank's touch and feel made him my stand-out artist. He has inspired me through the years more than any other. And there have been many great guitarists. I think Hank would make even a cheap throw-out guitar sound good. Kay He did Kay - it was an Antoria !! lol. Ian
