Hi, On the guitar that I use currently Custom shop 56Nos, I have it set up very sensitively but when I wind in the arm, I wind it to the limit then back it off one turn so I get a bit of slack. This way I find it gives me a bit of leeway, as I like to hold the Arm when playing and because of the sensitivity of the arm action, it helps to not accidently move it downwards mid playing motion, if that makes sense. If I leave go of the arm it drops down loose. Pete

Hi Charlie, Our Band has a live recording we did in the studios of ‘ Man of mystery’ but I haven’t worked out how to get the video to load up on here 😁 I am still trying to sort it out👍

Hi Dave, Personally, I am of the belief that the Amplifier was driven at real volume and I also believe that an Amplifier has to be driven at a reasonable volume, so as to hit the sweet spot as they say. There is a video on you tube of the Shadows playing live, burns era but with the AC30s driven very hard and you can distinctly here the Amplifier slightly breaking up ‘ on the edge’ so to speak, the same video clip is on the Vox story also. I think they playing Dance On. I find it’s difficult to get a satisfying sound tone, when the Amplifier is very low, who else finds this? Cheers Pete

I second that Len, I don’t see the point in having quality gear to use, then to have it interpreted by a computer, it’s similar to having a H & C with all the relevant echo patches but resorting to using one echo in a live situation, it’s all pointless😁 What’s the point of all the gear in the first place, Tin Hat firmly in place ha ha🤭🤔😂 Pete

Agree but to be fair, we are reliant on the sound of the broadcast, I would hazard a guess that the sound would have been 50% better had we be sat in the audience😆👍

In my opinion, I have always gone for the keep things simple and the most direct route, similar to the Hi Fi philosophy, the less in the chain the better. I used to use my Boss ME5 for the compressor but I got less bite from the plectrum on the strings and to be fair a lot of recordings, you can hear it, the plectrum flipping over the string instead of it attacking it with Bite?? Agree, re EQ mix live on stage, I think I pointed that fact out earlier on in the debate on the H&C and TVS3. I know the reasons, Hank has to have reliability on stage with the equipment but that will no doubt equate to authentic sound compromise, as older more authentic gear is to be fair, not as reliable as modern equipment 🤭. I think my point was that I was relating my experience with live Shadows Bands and comparing the Hank sound, the Shadows live performances were always professional, talented musicianship and all that and great sound but not that dated sound of the early 60s. In my opinion, I thought Phil Kelly’s early Shads sound was more authentic than Hanks on stage, purely because of the authentic gear he used but at the same time, this equipment carries risk with reliability and if it goes down it’s hardly likely you have two. I think really, we are on the same wave length with regard to the hows and why re Hank live stage sound but Hank’s early sound on stage, with respect, was not there. A good example was the Savage at the, I think the O2 arena. 👍

I think I can safely say, when watching the Shadows many times live and have always enjoyed Hanks sound, I have never thought it sounded like his early recordings, in fact I have thought that at least 2 Tribute bands have sounded more authentic to the original sound as opposed to the Shadows themselves. Has anyone else found this to be? Tin hat firmly on 😆 Sorry for drifting a little of track. Peter

Foot tapper, 1963 Strat, 99% sure Zambezi was Burns guitar as was Walkin, these numbers are 1964 Burns period, you can tell the tone is different from the Strat but still AC30. If I can be proved wrong I will hold my hands up but I’m confident ha ha😆👍 Peter

To me, their sound is tended more towards the Spotnicks Sound, this is not a negative but not the Shadows sound to me. They sound like a good band👍 Peter

And considerably more expensive at £3,000 + I have played through both and the Meazzi and I’m a very happy bunny, owning a H & C. When fellow musicians come to you and say how authentic your sound is, you then know your on to a winner. It is also worth knowing that when any of these units are used in a live set, then your EQ is generalised for every echo patch you use, as opposed to the Recorded sound that was separately EQ’ed for each number. This for some is stating the obvious but it’s surprising how many have not considered this, when listening to original recordings and comparing with your live sound. I am a stickler for getting the sound spot on, to the extreme but have to accept that every time I play live, there is compromise across the board but it’s as good as it gets from what I am told. Enjoy👍 Pete

Hi Rob, Don’t put yourself down with your playing ability, it’s excellent you play very well, there are many good players out there but equally, there are many of us who try to attain a standard such as yours. Very well done indeed with your efforts, keep up the good playing. Cheers Pete👍

Hi, Never seen him play a sunburst but there are photos of him using a white Strat in the studio, various photos of him with that guitar and also one were he is using the white Strat in a live performance. There is one particular photo that shows Hank with white Strat in the studio and his wrist bandaged up but never seen him with a Sunburst. Cheers. Pete Ps saw Hank in Blackpool in the 80s Change of Address tour, Black Strat and Bruce with white Strat.

Yes, you can tell, ha ha, it’s not the sound he has had in the past in my opinion, lacking tonal quality. I have no doubt these Amps have there place but if you backtrack Knophler playing the same number using other Amps you will here the difference, my opinion tho. Cheers pete

Hi Charlie, Thanks very much for the info, (Sister Arthur) appears to be a number that doesn’t often get played in a live set, when Bruce did it at Shadowmania, I thought wow what a great number it’s upbeat and a bit different and I remembered it from many years ago. Cheers Peter
