Fantastic moving tribute to BB King by Eric Clapton on his facebook page. How very true that much of this blues may be lost in the past.

Looking at perhaps getting one of these of the well known auction site. It's the original, blue one with no expression pedal.
Anybody used one, or have any opinions, good or bad.
Thanks,
Tim.

My current setup for practising is:- Line Out from amp into mixer, backing tracks from laptop into mixer. O/P from mixer into powered speakers. This seems to work well enough, but I'm aware that I'm not using my amps power stage, so may be losing some tone.
What setups do you use? Mic up amp, BT's through amp, everything separate, but close together.
Thanks,
Tim.

Hi,
Looking for suggestions for a pair of active monitors, around £200 pair.
Thanks,

Have just seen that Line6 have released the Amplifi TT. I had previously looked at the Amplifi 75, but didn't need that much power (or cost). It looks like the Amplifi TT might be just what I'm looking for.

Thanks for all the replies. Having trawled the internet for info about the VT20+, it seems they can suffer from a chronic hiss problem.
May need to look round for something different. Ideally looking for small (20w) amp that can do good fender, vox and marshall tones.
Back to the internet, and local music shops I think.

Hi Noel,
Yes, I use JamUp on my iPad quite a bit. I'm just looking to upgrade my analogue setup I leave permanently connected upstairs.

One thing I probably should mention is that this isn't mainly for Shadows songs, I play a lot of classic rock/blues as well, so I'm not just looking to emulate Shadows/Hanks sound.

Just wondering what members home setups are for practising to backing tracks?
I currently use a Vox DA5. Backing tracks come out of a PC into the AuxIn on the amp. I take the headphones out from the DA5 into a pair of powered speakers.
The reason for the question is that I am thinking of upgrading to a VT20+, and realise with the same set-up it bypasses the power amp stage, so may loose some of the warmth of the amp.
I was considering backing track into mixer and mic'ing up the amp into the mixer, then out to the speakers.
Any thoughts,
Tim.

Hi Garfield,
I've been using a Zoom 508 and RFX2000 for a couple of years now. The RFX2000 gives the better sound, and to be honest I'm more than happy with it. It all depends on how much you're desperate for 'That Sound'. I play a lot of other music, mainly Classic Rock/Blues, so I'm happy with my Shadows sound I get.
I picked mine up for £35 at a local Cash Converters, if it hadn't been such a bargain I would probably have stuck with the 508 until it gave up, then got one of the newer units, other other pedals.

Hi Noel,
Slightly off-topic but.....
Which iPad are you using. Any performance problems after the upgrade. I haven't upgraded yet, so thought I would ask.
Thanks, Tim.

I've used Tabledit. It's not free, but it does come with lifetime upgrades. Once you get used to using it you can create complex tabs really quickly. If you supply tabs in Tabledit format, there is a free viewer/player available.

Hi,
What would be suitable Zoom 508/RFX2000 patches and which pickup would be best for the version of Sleepwalk on Hank Plays Live.
Thanks,

Martin,
I suffered a TIA just before christmas 2012. I was a Driving Instructor at the time, and just starting out for a lesson when it happened. I can remember thinking I had had a stroke, as my father had one in his mid-50s.
To say I was relieved when the mobility returned to my arm and leg after a couple of hours is an understatement.
Strangely, I had just started playing guitar again after a break of a few months, and can remember thinking "b*gg*r, just as I'm getting back into playing"' when it happened.
As it turns out, it turned my life around.
As I couldn't drive for 4 weeks, I decided to swap jobs. I was getting disillusioned with driving instruction anyway. A local ASDA was just opening, so I applied there.
I recovered pretty much fully, have lost 5st, now only work part-time, got a dog, walk a lot more, started geo-caching and sailing, and now enjoy life a lot more.
Hope it goes as well for you as it did for me.
All the best,
Tim.

As a confirmed JamUp user, I was interested to see a new sim appear, especially as it is on offer at only £2.49 at the moment.
The app is Tonestack from Yonac. The app contains a multi-head echo, like JamUp, BUT with this one not only can you select a combination of heads, you can also select any number of heads from 1 to 4 and also stagger the amplitude of echo to increase/decrease in amplitude. The cost of this is also £2.49.
Having used this with Audiobus into a Vox AC30 sim on JamUp, although Tonestack also includes one as an in-app purchase, I got some nice echoes.
Haven't had chance to play with it properly yet, but it looks really promising, and at just under a fiver, if it's rubbish I haven't lost a lot.

I'm currently using an Apogee Jam as my input device for my iPad, but am thinking about getting a Griffin StudioConnect.
Has anybody any experience, good or bad, of this unit.
Thanks, Tim.

Alan,
Bought a PRS Custom 24 SE this year. Absolutely love it. I wanted the humbucker sound, but found Les Pauls to heavy.
As a bonus, when I looked on the internet I found it was a limited run of 200 made with a quilted top. It's lovely just to look at, let alone play.
Get one, you won't be disappointed.

Hi Mel,
I connect my guitar to my iPad using an Apogee Jam. I've had no problems with it so far.
The ouput is from the headphones mini-jack. I've connected to the Aux In on my practice amp, a pair of powered speakers or the Aux In on my iPod dock. All seem to work fine. For me, it just depends which room I'm practicing in.

Mel,
Have a look at Bias from Positive Grid. These are the same people who make JamUp that Noel Ford uses.
It allows you to design your own amp and own sound. For 13.99 (provided you already own an iPad), it's a fantastic piece of software. I have used it to create Vox and Matchless models for my playing.

Hi Dave,
One Track doesn't support lyrics like StageTraxx.
I mainly bought because it did everything I wanted, plus it has support for AirTurn pedals.

Hi Mike,
Have a look at the Clean and Glassy sims supplied. You can find good starting points in there. It's then just a case of experimenting with different settings, valves, etc. to get the sound you want.
The output can be taken from the iPad's headphone socket. I tend to go into either powered speakers or the Aux In on my Vox DA5 or iPod dock. It depends which room I'm in. Remember, the iPad's doing all the amp sim for you, so you don't want to colour the sound coming out any further.
Yes, you can play BT's on the iPad whilst using the amp sim, set Background option on in Bias settings. Have a look at my previous thread 'iPad for Backing Tracks' for some useful info. However, you will need to kill Bias when you've finished using the double tap and swipe up.
Hope this helps,
Tim.

If you don't mind paying a little bit extra, and all you're looking for is an Amp sim, I can recommend Bias from Positive Grid.
It come with some good Vox types, but you can customise them until your heart's content.
Well worth the money, I created a AC15, AC30 and Matchless type for my early/late Shadows sounds.

Hi Noel,
I agree you can balance the BT's and guitar sound in JamUp, but you have to manually select each track, and it starts as soon as selected. One Track is really geared for artists playing to backing tracks.
I think the problem is they're totally separate apps that are great at what they do. JamUp for guitar, effects and sims, One Track for handling BT's. It's just a shame you can't use the two together.
Unless I buy another iPad, now theres a thought.
Tim.

What would be great now would be a mixer app that could take feed, say via Audiobus, from One Track and JamUp to create a single output allowing you to balance BT and guitar.
Does one exist does anyone know?
Tim.
