Thanks for all the advice. I have since replaced the strings, re-setup and checked neck relief, bridge settings and action. Problem has now gone away.
It got me to wondering if the recent spell of warm(hot) weather we have been having could have contributed to this. I have been playing more recently, so with probably sweatier hands, the strings have aged quicker. I generally have quite acidic hands anyway, so this time I have replaced them with a set of Elixir Optiwebs.

Playing Nivram recently and I thought it used to be used years ago as the theme tune to a TV programme. However, I can’t for the life of me think what it was, or even if I imagined it.
Any ides, I would assume it was a fairly old programme, probably BBC1 or 2,

Steve,
The Optiwebs are supposed to have a more natural touch and sound. Certainly I haven’t really noticed any real difference between these and my D’Addarios I had on previously.

Just my two pennies worth. I’ve just put Elixir Optiwebs on my Strat. My fingers are quite corrosive and, although I’m only a bedroom player, strings soon sound dull. I only use 10’s so can’t help in that respect, but the new strings sound and feel fine to me. I’ll see how they wear.

When playing doublestops thats are both on the same fret, i:e. Playing fret 10 on both the G and B strings, do you use two fingers, or just one.
At the moment I tend to use fingers 1 and 2, even though I have large fingers, as I find it easier to move to the next doublestop up/down the fretboard.

Phil,
Mine need changing at the moment. I’ve always used Ernie Ball, but I only have to look at the strings and they start to corrode. How do you find the Elixir’s?

I’m tending to find that the high E on my Classic 50’s strat is a lot quieter/less sustain than the other strings. This is particularly noticable ablove the 12th fret, especially on tunes like sleepwalk, cavatina, etc. I’m currently using D’addario 10’s.
Any suggestions welcome.

I wondered if anybody had the tab for the small runs Hank plays on Sacha between the two parts on Hank Plays Live.
I’m pretty sure it’s in D, but I’ve looked and listened to that DVD and watched Phil McGarricks, but it’s just eluding me.
Thanks in advace, Tim

Still messing round with my iPad trying to recreate various echoes. I wonder if anyone could post a couple of soundfiles from various units, Quadraverb, MagicStomp, HCSE, of the various RE301 echoes. Want to see how they compare to my RFX-2000. Just a few muted and open notes would be great.
Thanks,
Tim.

Charlie,
Hope you don’t mind a couple of extra question if you know.
1. Is the head speed constant, so these timings are fixed? 2. Can the o/p levels be adjusted. 3. Do individual heads have there own feedback values, or is it a global setting.
Many Thanks, Tim.

I am trying to recreate some echoes on my iPad. A simple question, for the Echomatic 2 the timings I have are 106ms, 204ms, 285ms and 360ms. I am right in assuming that these timings are relative to the initial note, and not the previous echo (tap).
Thanks, Tim.

I’ve recently noticed various wrist, shoulder and waist pains after I have been playing for a while. I’m pretty sure it’s the chair I’m using. It’s an old dining chair, still with the arms on, so I’m tending to sit quite twisted and awkward. So, it’s time to get something better. My first thought are an adjustable office type chair.
What do others on here use? I don’t think I would get on with a high stool, so really looking for anything else suitable.
Thanks, Tim.

It’s a nice piece of equipment, especially as it was free. Previous owner was just going to throw it out. It makes a nice mini PA for the bedroom.

How would you describe the difference between Hank’s classic tone (i:e Apache, Wonderful Land, etc.) and his modern tone (Final Tour, etc.)?

I’ve got one. Had it a couple of years, it’s a beautiful guitar to play. 2 humbuckers, but can be coil tapped for a cleaner sound. I have a few guitars, strats, Les Paul, etc., but if I could have only one it would be my PRS as it’s so versatile. Try one, you won’t regret it. Tim.

Does anybody use one of these and do you have an opinion on it, good or bad.
I find muting the strings on my Strat quite difficult, a bit hit or miss for me, especially the B and high E strings. Having big hands probably doesn’t help.
No such problems on my Burns Marvin.

As the title says, what’s the best, correct, way to play doublestops?
Do you strum both strings with the pick, pick one with pick and other with fingers or use two fingers, possibly fingers 2 and 3 if still holding a pick to play them together.
Thanks, Tim.

Can anybody confirm what the head timings are for the RE-301. This is what I think it is:-
Head 1. 40ms to 130ms Head 2. 80ms to 260ms Head 3. 210ms to 720ms
I assume the Repeat Rate adjusts the timing between the min. and max. timings, and the Intensity controls the number of repeats (feedback).
I am trying to set up some echoes using the Multi-Tap in ToneStack on my iPad.
Thanks, Tim.

Just wondering if Hank used reverb on any Shadows and/or solo recordings or live work.
Or was it just echo units?

Well, that didn’t take long, after 8 minutes I received the YouTube e-mail and my video was removed.
So, back to other songs I’m working on.

Just out of interest, I’ve always fancied doing a cover of Stairway To Heaven, but know Led Zep covers tend to get pulled quickly. It happened when I tried to put my cover of What Is.... on YouTube. My covers are really only for friends and family, just so they can actually see me play.
I have just created a video using the version from Karaoke-Version website, my BT’s of choice, along with the album cover.
Previously, my LZ covers never even got onto YouTube before being bounced off, this one has. I will see how long it last before I try to record my version and put it up.

Hi Matthew,
Led Zeppelin are the same on YouTube. Had a cover of theirs removed.
You can usually look at YouTubes music policies page to see if a songs OK, but this seems to have stopped working recently.

The early VOX VT series of amps also suffered from the same problem. Probably the same electronics inside. Later model were OK though.
